stop with the suggestions of old f**king players
this is a thing that is really bothering me. it's pretty obvious that the organization is wanting to go young all across the board. i mean just look at the coaching stafff. is there anyone over 50 even?

why in the world would you think they would go after some ancient QB?

Here's a list of the FA QBs. It looks pretty accurate except you can take Favre off the list since he's re-retiring.

Manning, Vick, Moore, Leinart, Wallace, Hasslebeck and Wallace are the bigger names listed and the other guys are below.

Other Notable Free Agents:

Marc Bulger (BAL)

Todd Collins (CHI)

Caleb Hanie (CHI)

Brady Quinn (DEN)

Drew Stanton (DET)

Trent Edwards (JAC)

Luke McCown (JAC)

Brodie Croyle (KC)

Chad Pennington (MIA)

Tyler Thigpen (MIA)

Tarvaris Jackson (MIN)

Jim Sorgi (NYG)

Kellen Clemens (NYJ)

Kyle Boller (OAK)

Bruce Gradkowski (OAK)

Dennis Dixon (PIT)

Billy Volek (SD)

Troy Smith (SF)

Kerry Collins (TEN)

Rex Grossman (WAS)

Exactly.

It's getting annoying watching people shoot down name after name just because "OMG dats Noot a FRANCHIZE QB!!"

We aren't getting one this year.

We are, however, beyond the shadow of a doubt, going to get a veteran stop-gap.

One that we know we can win with would be a bonus.

I'd love to land Hasselbeck. Possibly even a Kerry Collins.

My hope and feeling is that the new staff and mgt wants to evaluate Jimmy under different circumstances. He had no true veteran mentor (I don't count Moore) and the structure of the team was in shambles last year. Why not bring in a Volek, Bulger or McNabb to be the guy that manages games without hurting us. It's not like the veteran QB that we bring in totally fugs up the youth movement. We were the youngest aged team in 2010, so it would barely make a dent in the overall average age. All the while, you can have Pickles be groomed and hone his game a little (fix the low release, look off receivers, mental clock, etc.). This team is young across the board, which I like. However, the QB position is the most important on the field and if the youth that is back there does not produce results (or at least show promise), why not add some veteran into the mix. I have no crystal ball that says Jimmy is going to be a successful starter or if he ends up a journeyman bum in the league, but I'd like to give him at least another season or two, let his WR's develop, add a stud TE that he can check down to under pressure, have an OC that is more creative and open, and see where he's at then.
