Could Matt Moore still be our guy?

Thought most of you guys were done with mediocrity? Yet still a lot of you want MM back?

Stats show something different, but when you watch him play do you see greatness? I didnt, I saw someone who was capable. I would like more than that now. Capable just doesnt cut it for me anymore.

Any coach who wants to win games now would start Moore over Jimmy, that doesnt really say much since its the norm (veterans over rookies). My real problem with Moore is that I dont see a high level of potential. I see him cruising right along like he is now. . . capable. For backup yes, starter no.

a recent Observer article said we weren't keeping Moore, who knows how true it is.

That's weird. I haven't heard of that and without a coach in place you'd think they wouldn't make that decision. I know he's at the stadium rehabbing everyday so I don't think they would make that decision yet considering they still have him under contract until March.

since Hurney is still the gm & hasn't had any conversations with Moore's agent, i doubt he comes back here. that could change once riveria & staff evaluate all our QB's from last year. it wouldn't bother me if they bring him back & let him battle against clausen & pike. i prefer the panthers to do that than to trade a pick for kolb who hasn't played much more than matt

What I suspect is that they will be evaluating a QB(or two possibly) to pick up from the draft and FA. Moore will fall into the FA category, and Tom Sorensen doesn't think they will re-sign him, though how much of that is him talking out of his ass and how much is him being right, we don't know. (http://www.charlotteobserver.com/2011/01/12/1975653/rent-a-qb-is-answer-for-2011.html for that article)

Moore is a definite upgrade over Clausen last season but because he is coming back from an injury etc I am not sure what they will do about him. I think they are also going to be trying to go for a large upgrade and may feel Moore isn't that guy.

It definitely said that. He didn't really give any reasons though which is strange. In that same article it also said that the Panthers believe Clausen will be the best we ever had :(

yeah I know, which is why I have trouble putting stock in it. How can the Panthers believe that right now? It's one thing to think he could turn out okay, but we've had some decent quarterbacks. Nobody amazing, but certainly some quality play under center :(

I haven't read any of this thread but the 1st post of this thread.. maybe people are throwing out some outlandish things..

Matt Moore would be a solid backup as a worst case scenario...

just like Clausen, it's even harder to say Moore sucks with him having played well before last year occurred..

how last year is a determining factor is beyond me..

sign him for a cheap contract, unless he's being unreasonable, and bring him back in.. no better backup in the league as a worst case scenario..

-----------

this is where I'm coming from before you all jump to your conclusions without understanding my point..

It's entirely too cliche to compare people's posts on here to thinking in Madden terms.. but it's true to some extent.

We need desperately a solid franchise QB.. where do we get that guy? well instead of thinking in terms of black and white, more people should realize that until you find that guy you have to do the best with what is readily available.

if there isn't a guy in the draft worth picking and there are no real options available in free agency, then you have to go with the next best thing until that option does become available..

With that said, where do we go from here?

I say, try to get Orton or sign McNabb.. those are the 2 best options available.. whether you hold some grudge against them is your problem. they can run an offense effectively, and I would debate Orton is somewhat solid..

after that, where to next? Well, Matt Moore before 2010 showed tremendous promise. I'm willing to even say he's a great litmus test to show 2010 was a f**ked up year and you can't judge Clausen either. (never mind the ridiculousness of judging a ROOKIE QB, but throw in that our coaching staff is incompetent)

So is it reasonable to say everyone wants to stay mediocre by keeping Matt Moore? I guess.. but looking at the entire picture, he's a solid backup, and with solid coaching could prove a little better than we saw last year.. perhaps he can show us glimpses of what we thought he could be..

my question to the people who aren't happy with whatever solution is offered is what would you do?

Plus they will be able to see first hand how his rehab is coming and I think they could get him cheap because he wants to stay there. I'm not sure how the CBA will play into this but I'm sure it will have an impact. The FO won't be sure which FA are available until pretty late so they might not want to risk missing out on them.

Who the f*ck knows.

I don't expect Matt Moore back with the Panthers. He stunk it up in 2010, even though he showed more potential than Clausen. He will find a #2 job somewhere and I wouldn't be surprised to see him start a few games next year. Reminds me a lot of Rex Grossman.

edit: I'd say Matt Moore's game against the Rams is the best example of who he really is.

    • He was supposed to be used as our TE/FB but we kept Ricci on the roster and havent done that.
