Dan Morgan doubles down on the current receiver room. Sounds like Tet McMillan isn't in consideration with their first round pick.

He's a good player but not the type of WR the team needs. The team needs SPEED at that position

Panthers GM Dan Morgan said Georgia LB Jalon Walker would be a 3-4 linebacker in Carolina’s system.
While Morgan also spent the press conference telling interested teams the Panthers would be willing to move down, it was a little more telling that he spoke about the Georgia LB prospect in such finished terms. He didn’t do so at the combine. The Panthers have widely been perceived as interested in drafting a defender at No. 8 overall and Walker would be a logical fit for them.

As always, thanks for all you do to make the huddle productive.  Now I feel bad for throwing a zinger at you on my Rumors Draft thread.  Ok, I am over it.

"We're excited about the development of Xavier [Legette] and Jalen Coker and some of our young guys," he replied. "So with [Adam] Thielen still in there, re-signing David Moore—I think we do feel good about our receiver room. We're looking forward to seeing them compete and just get better and better.

before he said this, he said, "I agree with what Dave said...." I hope he was referring to Canales and not Tepper.

Fwiw, I came out of that convo feeling like there wasn’t a clear “the guy.”

I might speculate--Walker at 8, but we prefer a trade back where the two top safeties will be sitting there like plump, juicy melons ready for the picking to take to the picnic.

I have been working on my extended metaphors

this could mean we are not announcing our pick to the pick before the draft this year, trying to keep it close to the vest, or it could mean they just don't know yet.

Based on what you have shared, I see no TE, no Large, unproductive OLB/Edge like Williams or Stewart (could that be a smoke screen?  I doubt it--why would you trick folks into not believing you were going to draft an unproductive college player?

Jalon Walker is the pick, but if he is gone, they would like to move back and take Emmanwori or Starks (S) or Johnson or Barron (CBs).  I also think bad boys Green (Edge) or Nolen (DE) could be on the menu--but they are a longer shot.  That is about all I see on the defensive side of the ball...

Based on his comments and the list of visits, I am thinking they feel that they are going to find a WR later in the draft--and that is probably smart.

Wildcard--he has not ruled out TE, but I think he is going with Tremble and Sanders and some UDFA or something like that.

if the panthers draft Jalon Walker, he'll play linebacker in 3-4 defense

I am thinking he would be the Panther's version of Micah Parsons and we would still draft an edge.

GM Dan Morgan said his phone didn’t go nuts after the news broke on Derek Carr’s shoulder injury… despite holding the No. 8 pick, right before the #Saints. But he sounds like a guy open to offers.

“We'll be waiting if somebody wants to come up."

Poor salesmanship on that one. "Yeah, we got some calls." and refuse to elaborate on that would've been the right way to field that one.

I think Dan is hoping a team gives him an offer for #8. It feels like (as Mike Kaye just mentioned) there isn't "a guy" they really like at this spot, the top 5 blue chip players will be gone by the time we pick.

Yeah, I think there are guys that we feel comfortable picking but we'd prefer to slide back and get an extra pick or two.

    • Biiiiiig eyeroll on this.  First, Look at historical stats of the most recent historical great DBs.  I plucked 3, Revis, Sherman, and Norman (cuzz he was our guy).  Combined post age 30, there are TWO pro bowls between those 3 and wanna get this...ZERO seasons with 16 games started.  ALL missed time.  It is RARE that Corners survive that long in the NFL and its about time we started recognizing this fact.  Jaycee is a good bet because it hasnt been anything seriously devastating injury wise, and with his sample size he could and should be an incredible piece for the panthers through age 30. Jaire kinda flops on the other side, hes 28...so hes under 30, but he wants his payday before it comes up, hes also been injury prone lately.  Bulk of the contract will be on opposite side of 30.  Will both of these guys help us be better in 2026?  SURE!  No doubt, but the question is, will these guys help us past 2026...not sure. The investment isnt worth the risk, nor would the ROI be anywhere close to worth it.  Neither guy is moving us from a 6-8 win team to a 8-10 team, period. My point is we're in this state a 6-8 win team IMO and he projects us as  a 4-6 win team.  EVEN if we think Jaire or Ramsey will make us a 6-8 win team, it in NO WAY is worth the money or capital to move that much just to suck kinda less.
    • I assumed he was retiring but apparently he plans on playing multiple more seasons.  Florida is gonna have trouble holding onto everyone.  Happens to all teams that have that much success.
    • I hate Marchand, but if he became a free agent.....
