Would you take Josh Freeman #1 overall?

Locker has at least put up good numbers in college (just not this year) while surrounded by garbage for teammates. That's something that can't be said about Gabbert.

...is that a joke? Gabbert had better numbers last year than Locker did and he isn't exactly playing with a powerhouse group of players...

It's cool if you don't want Gabbert, but some of you just make poo up out of nowhere about him.

Another question that I think is very relavent with the Panthers having the #1 pick is how much weight do you give a sure thing as compared to possible ability.

Most teams who have the #1 overall don't gamble on that pick but instead look at the more sure thing. And more often than not it's the right decission. They also don't worry about need and will find a way to make the player fit within the current roster.

Right now there seems to be a longer than normal list of possible picks with the 1st pick. Narrowing down who should and will be the choice is going to be will be based more on who the best player available is than the Panther's need at QB and DT. Hopfully, the more Fairly is talked up or Gabbert, Newton or Locker is talked up and the more other teams think for sure the Panthers are going to draft one of them for sure, the higher the asking price becomes for a trade.

But if a trade doesn't happen, then it goes back to who is the most likely to pan out. Could that be Gabbert? Of course anything is possible. No one saw Mario Williams going #1. No one knows yet who that is in this draft nor will they for a couple more weeks.

This is a very important rule in drafting that I feel the good teams do....I don't think it is smart to use 1st round picks and 1st round money on guys who are considered major projects. The smart teams get guys who are likely to contribute soon, and save the major projects for later rounds. At least if you are going to take projects, do it late in the 1st.

This is why I lean towards Green right now, but I am fine with anyone who's talents are likely to quickly translate to the NFL.

Yes to Freemen (hindsight is definitely 20/20 on that one I predicted he was going to be a bust)

No to Gabbert- I can't stand Jimmay right now, but if we could bring in a solid vet to compete with him I'd be happy waiting on drafting a franchise qb

Well, NO had the shot at a 1st round bye to play for...

TB went 1-5 in those games, with the only win coming in week 17 against the Saints, who had nothing to play for.

And in regards to the original topic, in hindsight hell yea. The kid looks solid, despite going 1-5 vs 4 very good teams. He passes the eye test with flying colors, if not the stat test (vs 4 very good teams). Would I have spent a 1st overall on him as a college prospect? Not in a million years, same way I wouldn't consider Gabbert in the top half of the first round. Freeman just happened to be a "potential" that worked out, or at least appears to have worked out so far IMO.

Yes I would. On the Frank and Moose show Moose compared him to Cam Newton.

You mean he compared Newton to Freeman? Freeman is a much much better QB than Newton is right now. More accurate, better touch on the ball, better pocket presence... Don't know how you can compare the two at this point... Freeman is a passing QB, Newton is a running QB.

Take away Freeman's ability to get out the pocket and I think you really don't have anything special. His ability to extend plays and force teams to consider his running ability (despite him very definitely being a pass first QB now) does give him leway with his accuracy.

Is Gabbert able to do what he does? The guy is moderately mobile, but is no where near as effect as Freeman is or was.

I would have to agree with you that from my limited knowledge, Green looks to be the most likely to succeed in the NFL out of the main group of players everyone is talking about. However, there are three other players that aren't being talked about that translate really well to the NFL.

Von Miller, OLB, Texas A&M

Kyle Rudolph, TE, Nortre Dame

Stefen Wisniewski, OC/G, Penn State

Now, I'm not suggesting that any of these players are who I am pounding a drum for going #1 overall. I'm just pointing out that these players will be successful NFL players. OLB, TE and OC/G are not the typical positions that go #1 overall, we all know that. But the talent level of Miller, Rudolph and Wisniewski is right there with Peterson, Green, Fairly and Bowers.

Just something to think about.

Yes he sited that as a reason we should go get him.

from the scouting report of freeman...

Nice footwork and has a quick drop ... Outstanding feel for the pass rush

this is something that can/should never be said of yo gabba gabbert.

the dude is a total mess when he's under pressure. that isn't going to get any better in the pros.

people complain about newton being a project, but gabbert is just as much or more of a project than newton. dude won't and shouldn't be starting for a few years...that is if he ever should start.

If your drafting a project why would you go Gabbert over Newton..this makes no sense.

Gabbert is in a spread pass offense too...not a pro style. He misses open uys Baadly and is slow footed...ala a slightly faster Carson Pamler.

Newton too is in a Spread run offense and it was way more effective. Newton Showed decent accuracy and yes in the championship game he did miss on two passes but how long a layoff is the Bowl game...all offenses look horrid. Locker threw for 78 yards??

Gabbertt has the size and power arm but so does Derek Anderson.

Josh Freeman with hindsight is yes a no.1 pick this year..but I feel hes in the same pool of players like a Newton or Gabbert...with Freeman , Newton closer to the top and Gabbert on the low end. Like Easy E said "F*C* the Po-Scouts ratings." ..or was that police..i dunno.

    • The ceiling for this team feels like a 2020 type season where they play tough competitive games and still lose most of them. Thats 5-6 wins. If Bryce is as bad as last year they’re back to a 2 win type team.
