Resigning core FA's...

The concept behind this is that under the new CBA, the players will be cheaper. I completely understand your point that it is important we lock these guys up while we can instead of allowing them the opportunity to jump ship, but from an owner's prospective... "Why sign someone for $5 today when you can sign them for $3 tomorrow."

Because until this entire thing is resolved the owner's books are not complete. They can't accurately budget out an entire year not knowing how many games will be played, what they will be paying rookies, etc. Its more fiscally responsible to wait and not sign contracts now. It may also be to the players advantage not to, as they may be able to get a better deal after the resolution.

or lose them for $4 bucks the next day. either way we will be into bidding wars now when we could have already locked them up.

If a player is interested in leaving or putting themselves in a situation to be bid over they aren't going to re sign early anyway.

If they are as savvy as you say they are then they would have budget estimates for all scenarios. I mean this is why they are billionaires...right?

    • not sure if any of this is news, but a good summary of our situation heading into training camp.  It's sure gonna be good getting Derrick back. After missing virtually all of the 2024 season, Panthers defensive tackle Derrick Brown is aiming for a full return to the field during training camp later this summer, per Joseph Person of The Athletic. Brown tore his meniscus in Week 1 and underwent season-ending surgery that has kept him limited through spring practices, though he did participate in “walk-throughs and light side work” during mandatory minicamp, according to Person. Brown originally stated a desire to be ready for the 2025 regular season, but his timeline appears to have moved up. Brown’s injury was particularly disappointing after a career-best 2023 season. He led all defensive linemen with 103 total tackles and was named to his first Pro Bowl, earning him a four-year, $96MM extension from the Panthers in April 2024. While he has never been a prolific pass rusher, Brown’s size and power has consistently commanded double-teams and created opportunities for his teammates. His impact was evident last season, as Carolina’s run defense ranked dead-last in his absence. The Panthers spent significant resources this offseason on defensive line depth, which should allow them to manage Brown’s usage more carefully coming off a major injury. He played a whopping 940 defensive snaps in 2023 (89% of the team’s total) and was on the field for almost every play before his injury last year. With new teammates Tershawn Wharton, Bobby Brown III, and Cam Jackson ready to share the load, Derrick Brown can take a lower snap share to stay fresh and healthy for the entire season. • Yeah it's kind of like they don't want him on the team anymore for some reason
