This was my same argument with Gross/Peppers... as great as Peppers is, it's much easier to manufacture a pass rush than it is to manufacture pass protection, especially in the zone-blitz scheme Rivera is planning to run, you don't need a designated pass rusher.

Kalil makes the most sense. They think D-will will be the easiest to resign. Kalil is more proven than CJ thus will be more in demand. Good move.

I would think that a 24 year old pass rusher would be in more demand.

...and one more argument in favor of Kalil getting the tag over CJ: the center is the QB of the offensive line, he calls out protection schemes and adjustments and the chemistry of the offensive line is a very delicate thing, can take years to build.

Looking at it from other teams boards and heck maybe other teams FO's.

CJ-might be a one year wonder so maybe not as many teams offer him and pay a lot of money for someone that might not produce like that again (lol da pepperz 2 sack season)

Dwill-now has the "Injury bug" tag and is approaching 30. Also being the starter at Memphis for a long time plus NFL wear and tear really puts a hurting on a RB.

Kalil-I think he would have been the first FA picked up by someone else if he hit the market. Walter football has him as the highest rated center in this FA class and Walter's ratings are usually pretty good. Plus we have NOOOOOO dept at the center spot so I guess the office felt he was the most important to tag.

I'm also in the boat that CJ and Dwill would be easier contracts to reach since both have shown interest in staying here for the long haul.
