REPORT: per Albert Breer, Panthers have been most aggressive team in attempting to trade back

I get not liking the players but the trades were fine.Ā  This idea that other GMs take advantage of MorganĀ is unwarrantedĀ

Yeah I can see you're take.Ā  I don't object to the value scale.Ā Ā

There was some article I remember (out there, somewhere) about how we gained the most value per the trade charts of any team from last year's draft moves.Ā  It was mainly because of the Fiske trade, but still, there was nothing egregious.Ā  We've just been very obvious with a lot of stuff/moves.Ā  Doesn't make them all necessarily bad.Ā Ā

Oh and fans love to point and say how stupid their FOs are.Ā Ā Ā

That's too much. They can give us their second and call it even.Ā  I'm not giving them our second because they would win this trade by a lot. No they give is their second and we give them their 4th back and then we are even.

The one he proposed is +70Ā in DAL's favor on value charts (a 4th round value), but given our position (per now Breer, McShay, and more) about giving aĀ team a slight deal), that plus a late-2026 is probably getting it done for us.Ā

And before you say it, yes, I get that you personally won't do it, but I would caution those exceptions.Ā Ā

I understand his position but I would use lower round picks to sweeten the deal and keep the 2nd round pick. The chart may say the value is the same but in this draft it's not. The day 2 picks are more important from a talent value perspective.Ā

I have a feeling they are going to package 57 to move up in the second anyway that's why I mentioned the swap

There’s reports that the Panthers are potentially willing to take less than market value on a trade back which is unacceptable. That’s why I’m saying I could see MorganĀ getting fleeced. Everyone knows the Panthers are desperate to trade back which puts us in a low leverage situation..Ā Add in the selections he made last year with his trades, I’d like to see Morgan stay put and not get cute. Trading back has rarely worked for this franchise anyways.Ā

Less than marketable is not getting fleeced, especially in this draft

Giving up pick 57 would be too rich for me as it stands right now. There's just too many players on day 2 that can improve this team. But things might happen on day 1 that could change my mind.Ā

Okay

Taking less than market value is the definition of getting fleeced. Just because it’s a ā€œweaker draftā€ in some people’s eyes doesn’t mean it’s acceptable to not get full value for your pick. Frankly, there’s a lot of players I like who are projected to be at #8 , but not later on if we trade out.Ā Ā The 2025 Draft could be full of studs in 3 years. Why accept less than market value when no one truly knows how these players will turn out? Market value is market value. Idc what year it is.Ā

    • I agree but he honestly has gotten better about this. Used to be he’d do it like 4-5 times a game, now it’s like 2-3. Overall I’m incredibly happy with his game, his D has been solid and when he is playing his role he’s a solid scorer and one of the few guys who can consistently finish at the rim and provide that threat. Plus he’s electric and LaMelo loves him. Going into the season I was sure he would just be a stop gap here but now I’m reconsidering and could see him continue to be a ā€œcoreā€ piece here. Obviously not on the level of the other starters but he is an important cog for this team. We felt his missed presence during his and Moose’s suspensions.
    • Philly will be a bigger challenge than the Knicks were IMO. George and Embiid are back, not sure about Maxey but Embiid alone is a nightmare matchup for us and Moose. We’ve never really done well against him. Celtics added Tatum but honestly not sure they’re all that much better with him right now than they were when we whooped them a few weeks ago. We should be able to at the very least split these 2, hopefully take both.
