He's our #1 RHD though....

And I sure wouldn't trade his defense (which we missed sorely when he was out) for Karlsons offense.

I hadn't realized that ban hadn't kicked in yet. Nice it's a small risk for what I think will be a steal of a contract by year #3

Just doing the simple math with this year's cap of 114m that's 3rd liner money.....

If he never improves its a fair deal.... if he is a middle 6 50 point guy it's a steal.

Ok so how does this make sense for Blake?  Honestly I like it for us.  I’m really high on Blake’s future like I’m sure the Canes FO is.  If he continues along the path he’s on, we’ll have a top 6 forward on a KK contract.

The last three years has a full NMC and he's got deferred money in the first 4 years totalling 14.5m and 6.8m in years 7&8. 

21.3m is due as a deferred signing bonus in 2034 when he's 30 and a ufa. 

 

So he's almost assuredly going to be here for the full 8 years no matter his performance. So he got himself 8 years of stability and a nice payday coming in 9 years.

You guys are looking at the Blake deal all wrong. He was a 4th round pick that started as a rookie. That hardly EVER happens in the NHL. 9.999/10 times he is Developing in the AHL. Tulsky isn’t dumb. He knows if Blake continues on this path, he could be dangerous. So he locks him up now to a team friendly deal.
