It can't be a Burns situation. Tmac is an unknown in the NFL. Burns had what, 4 years of NFL film at the time of the trade offer? Sure you can judge taking the trade or not with 20/20 hindsight. Which I'm sure you will if Tmac isn't all pro this year. I really doubt they turned down 3 first rounders based on the context of this video though. Feels like you are just priming yourself to poo on the team later in the year like you always do.

But comparing the hands-on draft style of Jerry Jones vs (what appeared to be) a more observant/less-involved Tepper this year... it seems very much like Dan was running the show and making the player decisions with his football mgmt team

 

There was a point in the video that Morgan looks at Tepper as if he was seeking approval--but that could have been polite inclusion.  If I am Tepper I am sitting right in that seat doing the same thing--but I would be more vocal...When Morgan said, "I was hoping we would not get an offer we'd have to accept..." (paraphrasing)--that is his gut talking.  Listen to your gut--don't let circumstances prevent the gut from being heard.  Trust the gut.  Reason?  He knew the draft would play out if they got Tmac.  He knew they would get an edge in round 2.  After that, they could get a RB and S on day 3.

To me it showed he has trust in the FO. 

Very different than Rhule who as a coach wanted to make all the decisions.

Seemed like Dan was explaining his thought process on moving up vs moving down vs staying put on each individual opportunity they wanted. Maybe he was looking for validation on the valuation of various trade ups/downs from Tep who understands value equivalency convos

But it continues a narrative of the Teps being less hands-on than they were before (my timeline has the turning point being the infamous drink toss, with confirmation being the intro Dan/Dave presser)

I liked her big hug for Tet when he got here. I also really like how Canales wants to get to know his players... I like that he is trying to create a family vibe, all the while being very vocal that you have to compete to be on the team. 

I think we are building something special here.

I fully expected Teppers to force himself into the conversation, but he was hands on, mouth shut.   Morgan brings an eye for talent that we have not had here, imo.  I think what he has done over the past 2 seasons in the third and fourth rounds is stellar--I get the XL pick, and I get the Brooks pick in round 2--they have yet to work out, but there was always a patient, 2-3 year plan, and XL was raw.  So it is materializing.  However, getting a starting LB and TE in rounds 3 and 4 is good (I will call Sanders a starting TE because he will play a lot in the rotation).  This year, I think Ransom could start and Princely could be a key rotational piece.

I like the Teppers involvement sorry. Rather have an engaged owner and then someone falling asleep in his box seat. And I think this idea that's he's been overruling the coaches have been overblown, he's just been really bad at hiring them. Canales is his attempt at course correction by making it Dan's choice.

The "football guys" are still picked by the owner at the end of the day, there's no way around that so I'd rather the guy be into it.

I watched the whole thing and it was overall very encouraging.

The trio of Morgan/Tilis/Canales has me feeling optimistic for the future. Now we need to see this on the field.

As for Tepper. I don't mind him being in the draft room and giving basic input. Anything beyond that should and will ilicit criticism. Just be an owner and let the football people make the decisions when the time comes. And that's what he did so I have no complaints.

I will say as far as the draft and FA we seem to have put a higher emphasis on seeking additions with the right mentality and high character. They're trying to instill a culture. I have no idea if it will work but at least they are making it a priority. That's all I can ask for at this juncture.

      With the contract money an OT first rounder makes you can ALWAYS get a new girlfriend.  And probably an upgrade at that.  You only got 2 parents.

      Brother. You are wholly confusing comparing situations and applying actual standards like most other franchises do like simply getting into a playoff series and winning at least 1 or 2 series games with praising. Nobody is praising the Hawks. Nobody is praising the Magic. Nobody here likes those teams. But reality is reality. The Hawks like other franchises have traded players fired coaches etc but they can still win a couple playoff games. How is that not the bare floor for you or anyone else? What are we doing here if it isn't? We've seen eye to eye on many things over the years. But you are in the camp on the Hornets where you are emotionally attached to LaMelo where you feel the need to carry his water like he's got that juice. That's cool that you feel that way. It's your prerogative. But I differ from that viewpoint entirely. If he had that juice we would not have gotten wiped off the court in 2 play in games with 2 different coaching staffs and rosters. if people don't like hearing that well I'm sorry but how the hell is this team ever going to get better and ultimately go anywhere in the postseason if we just blindly pat them on the back for getting their asses whooped before they actually even get into the real playoffs? There seem to be some Bryce Young level standards being applied here. That's wild to me. But to each his own.

      Proctor/Freeling were always the belles of the ball where we were picking. What those two *could* become at OT was far greater than what others could be at their respective positions and I’m glad our FO could see that.
