I think we should bump some 2023 threads from this time of the year, right before preseason started.   People LOVED that 2023 team.  That was probably the highest the huddle has been post Cam.  Now in hindsight.....people rightfully trash it.

Yep some serious huddle amnesia going on in this tread. lol

In fairness to the Huddle, the Panthers pumped out more propaganda before the 2023 season than ever before.

We really were gaslit into believing we were going to be competing for the playoffs with our All-star coaching staff and roster

all star coaching staff

best FA class of all time

PG draft pick at QB.  No D will be able to lock in on any WR.

OL gonna pick right up from where Wilks left off so basically a top 10 OL

Now, I do think the gaslighting was largely offensive.  I don't recall much of the talk being on the D.

*gif of me when I told people Miles Sanders was a bad add for us and at stupid price tag....because he was a bad rec back and was a product of the best OL in the NFL (and the Eagles had actually told the world that in their own actions).

You can always count on that hit dog to holler :3

The truly ironic thing in all this is if Bryce Young himself actually operated under the mentality of his loudest fragile superfan club he'd never actually see any flaws in himself or work to improve. He'd blame everything else. Dude probably wouldn't even leave his house. Good thing he at least has that going for him!

Other than Mingo for Legette, there isn't a huge difference in the first team. Chark is a 1,000 yard receiver, and Tetairoa hasn't caught a single pass in an NFL game. So you can't really say whether that is better or not.

I also really liked Shenault for what he could do as a sort of joker.

idk man, as much as I like DJ Chark, he hasn't exactly out performed his second round draft status (some would argue that he hasn't lived up to it).

The ceiling difference between Chark, Mingo, TMJ, and ISM vs. TMac, XL, Coker, and Horn Jr to me is massive.

eh... this seems like a little more confirmation bias than reality imo

Fans were understandably hoping for good news when the team showed under Wilks that it could compete. When the All-Star coaching staff was brought in there wasn't conversations about the high school politics that would take place... they were beyond that, right... ?

Nobody foresaw the OL starting 6 different LGs, 7 different RGs, and placing 8/9 different players at both spots over the season. Nobody foresaw the entire WR room except for Adam Thielen being unable to get meaningful separation. poo... nobody expected Hayden Hurst to be concussed to the point of memory loss.

The Wilks OL only got "improved" when they started playing 1970s football.  They had showed exactly how flawed they were before that when asked to play like the present day.   That's 1970s survival ball wasn't going to be played in 2023.

Nobody really saw AT overperforming.  I'd give you that.  That was a super bland cast of done nothings and should be backups put into starting roles (Chark, TMJ, AT).  Which was a legit worry for a rookie QB expected to start day 1. The main mental gymnastics done about the WRs is that since we didn't actually have anyone actually good.....it would be tough to defensively scheme to stop people with super point guard BY.

With the all star staff, it was loudly stated by the minority it was actually just a bad retread hire (who didn't fit w/ BY at all)....largely only looking good given the comparable to idiotic Matt Rhule.  It was also discussed about the random parts and too many chiefs in the kitchen.  A Tepper arrangement of random people.  Which isn't really how coaching staffs work.

Hayden Hurst was just a NFL JAG TE.  That's why we were his 3rd team in 3 seasons.  Accounting for 400 and 200 yards in the 2 seasons prior.  Expecting Hurst to matter is part of the gaslighting.

Most of the mental gymnastics that I recall were folks stating that because of the assets given up as well as being taken #1 overall meant that whatever QB was drafted was going to have to uplift the WR room. Imo, that mindset was the unrealistic one waiting for its turn on the pommel horse.

Hayden Hurst was more of a proven commodity than Tommy Tremble was at that point. Pretending that isn't the case is textbook gaslighting.

if Hurst or Tremble gets injured....neither injury should be brought up for why your team isn't getting it done.  League is full of those type bodies.  Even remotely well built teams should already have another of that calbier largely ready to roll.   Or can just go get one.

    • Kurb is still alive and well.  I’m still friends with him on all of the social media.  He truly is a great man!  That’s my bro!  He always looked out for me since the early days of the huddle.  It definitely makes me sad that he just quit posting here, but that’s life.  He still shares his takes on social media and X, but a lot of the huddle vets just grew tired of this format and the environment, I guess?  It’s a lot of guys that were valuable contributors here that just stopped posting but are still alive and passionate Panthers fans.  Blindsite used to post huge write-ups and was a well-respected poster and then just disappeared.  We had one of these type threads several years ago and he checked back in and explained he just lost the motivation to stay active here.  It was amazing hearing from him again…   I signed up in 04 after coming over from the Charlotte.com boards and been here ever since.  (For those that don’t know - this is Proudiddy - had to change the name very recently due to ‘ol tootsie roll penis and the bad press 😂).  I’m forever thankful for all of you, even those who I haven’t had the greatest history with, I still appreciate yall.  Many have come and gone, both figuratively and literally, and that has put a lot into perspective over the years.  I went from a young, newly married, wide-eyed twenty year-old guy with a baby on the way, to a now forty-two year-old guy, recently divorced and newly re-married guy with my oldest baby now an adult and 5 more kids since.  And what ride it has been!  You guys have been a much bigger part of my life than I really care to acknowledge.😂
