TMac looked great. Outside of running the wrong route on the 4th down that led to the ball going out of the back of the endzone, he had a solid game for a rookie WR.

what route was he supposed to run? even if he did....

the entire thing setup perfect in the end for a relatively easy throw Saunders right in front of Bryce's face.

My bad my Wildcat brother

I feel like I spoke it into existence for him to become a Panther, and all I did was saddle my GOAT with this team, this offense, and unfortunately this "Quarterback"

My excitement of the last 4 months since we drafted him has quickly turned into "oh poo, please just don't ruin his career before it's able to get off the ground and show him to be the player I know he can be"

Sorry The Hangover GIF

We should have drafted Warren or Golden because those are the type of guys Bryce throws to. But no, we got a guy who cannot get separation and every pass is going to be a contested play.

At least they didn't let Travis Hunter to go off on the yesterday. That was the only bright spot from yesterday.

we have Jaycee Horn's incredible INT to thank for it not being the Travis Hunter show today.  would have been an 8 catch, 100ish yard day if not for that.

Anyone have a clip of his catch that was called back on the illegal man downfield?

Not sure I've seen it since the play happened, but I want to see it again.  I feel like I just remember it looked like the ball was going to hit the defender in the back and he made a great adjustment to swim around him and make a great hands catch.

This was the ineligible man downfield call against Corbett. Let me know if that isn't it and I'll see if I can find it.

If he caught wide open passes people would complain he doesn't make difficult catches

That route combo calls for the slant to be the rub for the out route. XL would've been wide open. When he looks at JT0 (screenshot can be provided if there's doubt), JT0 isn't looking at Bryce, is still trying to get open, and has TMac's defender coming into the area.

I don't disagree though that he should've at least tried to get it to somebody instead of sailing it out of bounds on 4th down. Better to give a teammate a chance than essentially give up on the play.

Yosh Nijman also gave up immediate inside pressure, which was why the ball got pulled back down.

I wouldn't have been mad at BY committing the cardinal sin of throwing the other direction so long as he tried to highpoint TMac in the endzone. :3

Sheesh. Look at Damien Lewis instructing/communicating with Nijman and the ball is snapped mid-thought as he's looking to the right. He even is pointing his man out and I wonder if that's why Nijman doesn't really touch him. He wasn't ready at all and neither was Nijman. That's coaching! If Nijman wasn't supposed to pick that up, then he did admirable to at least push him off his side there.

Bryce's eyes suggest XL is the first read in this play..... XL isn't even turning his head... lack of reps? Coaching? Maybe XL is truly not grasping the playbook.

Rest of the play is poopoo and doesn't matter.

It's almost like these guys didn't get enough reps together preseason or something. I texted my buddies the Panthers are the only NFL org playing their 4th preseason game in Week 1.

Already covered in the discussion. That route combo calls for the slant to be the rub for the out route. JT0 had TMac's man coming into the area and he wasn't looking at Bryce.

Nijman getting blown up on the inside shoulder makes most of it a moot point.

This all just seems like mental gymnastics to keep making excuses for Bryce.

The guy threw the ball away on 4th down. I mean... LOL! There's no defending it. We can breakdown the play til kingdom comes to see what else went wrong but the BIG thing that went wrong is our QB panicked, lost his head, and threw the ball away on 4th down.

I've gone back and watched this a few times.

I swear It's a throw to Sanders or an attempted one at least. I dunno if it slipped from his hand or what.

Good call re: DLew. I didn't notice how surprised he seemed by the defender already scooting by. If Nijman doesn't lose inside, DLew probably de-cleats the opponent.

Perfect pass, perfect catch, negated by penalty. Most frustrating thing to watch yesterday and one that should get better as the season goes on. They did an un-freaking-believable job of passing around the who-will-mess-this-play up baton.

BY has time and executes a nice pass? Penalty. BY has time and a man open? Underthrown. BY has found a rhythm when we desperately need a TD before halftime? XL can't get two feet inbounds (I am still in disbelief at how horrendous that was). WR's getting open? Nijman can't block anybody. BY nice toss to Sanders aka Hands? Dropped.

I can't tell if he's just throwing it up in desperation or throwing it away either. Might be one of those plays where we'll have to go to the broadcast to see if they've got a closer shot that'll give more perspective.

    • Do you see the vision?  As of now our Carolina Panthers don’t have an identity. We are not an offensive powerhouse and on defense we only started getting it together towards the end of the year last year. In my opinion we are much closer to having an incredible defense that scares the daylights out of people. I say the answer is simple and we fully commit to that possible identity.    Emmanuel McNeil Warren (E man)  This guy is like a shark lurking around ready to attack anyone. Fearless. He is easily a top 20 talent in my eyes, and the only reason he isn’t more talked about is because he’s from Toledo. Do your due diligence as panther fans and watch his tape I beg you. Once you’re done watching let me ask you this, if you dropped E - Man into the strong safety spot on the Buckeyes, he isn’t being talked about as one of the best prospects we’ve seen in some time given the skill set you see with this guy? I think so. Put his name on the card and turn it in at 19.    Jacob Rodriguez  High effort, High energy, High IQ guy that flies around the field. We all know Jacob at this point. My only concern is he’s a little bit too good and I’m not sure he makes it to us at our pick in the second. With the additions of Jacob and E- Man I think our defense goes to top 5 in the league. We would have a duo of linebackers that rival anything we’ve had in our past. I’m not a GM so I don’t know what the possible answer could be, but if there’s a way we can comfortably trade up in the second to secure this guy I think we find a way to do it.    Spend the rest of our picks fixing the O - line.    Thoughts Panthers fans? Who’s the ideal duo for yall?
    • OL is arguably much more important to the success of a young QB. (Or any QB)
    • Didn’t get around to watching this one but looks like Pistons played their starters and actually tried…? Unlucky that they sit vs Magic, etc and try vs us. Hopefully we can beat the Heat and then Magic or 6ers with no Embiid. BUT if not, the NBA really should give us the lottery win this year like they did Mavs last year. Another high pick could be our final missing piece and have us as legit top contenders next year and going forward if we’re healthy. Or trade it for a Giannis type
