Watching 2024 week 1 Cannales Presser again

He was pretty quick to bench Young last time. Problem is he doesn’t have anyone to replace him with, we saw Andy slowed down a lot in just a few games. If he benches Bryce again he’s probably done, we’ll probably see Hooker before we see Bryce again if that happens.

Dave has this whole nice guy thing but I get the feeling that he hates looking incompetent especially after publicly supporting him all offseason. We probably wouldn’t have seen him last year if Andy didn’t get hurt.

I’m not sure Dave is on the hot seat. I think Bryce has the shorter leash. Dave nor Morgan drafted Bryce. Think they will get a shot to draft their own QB and let the chips fall where they may from there. I still think Canales has a chance to be a successful coach here, but there are going to be a lot of bumps and growing pains along the way. Evero and Bryce will be shown the door before Canales.

That’s what my more practical side tells me. But if Tepper feels extra embarrassed, then who knows

the thing that worries me is that since Tepper has a rep for firing coaches, I think he will give Dave longer than he deserves. Sadly, a lot of this has to do with Evero who should not have been retained. Dave seems like a nice, cool guy but his rah rah youth pastor shtick isn't working as an NFL HC. Especially paired with a youth pastor QB.

I've never liked this carousel.  GM/Coach/QB carousel that is.  When you cycle through them there's always a scapegoat.  We've had 3 GMs, 7 Head coaches (including interims), and 9 different quarterbacks (starting) since Tepper bought the team.  By and large this has been rotational with coaches inheriting quarterbacks, or GMs inheriting coaches or even worse GMs not picking their coaches.  It's just terrible organizational hierarchy all the time, very dysfunctional.

Hire your GM, let him hire his coach and get the players that coach says he need for his vision.  Create top down accountability.  Cannales was hired to make Bryce look like a good draft pick, if he can't do that then he's failed at the thing he had to have sold himself on.

Morgan was a head scratcher from day one.  A hold over from the Fitterer mistakes, certainly no history of success as an executive.  Has always felt like a yes man for Tepper or a blindfolded visions of going young everywhere and letting them learn on the job.  Just terrible, terrible organizational vision in a league being dominated by real professionals.

I mean most of these press conferences by losing coaches sound the same. They made more plays, missed opportunities, gotta get off the field on 3rd down, etc.

Yeah no doubt, the eery part is it could almost be the same game.  Starts off talking about three turnovers and it tracks pretty close as it goes on.

Canales is not on the hotseat as of right now.

If Bryce fails, the plan is for Canales and Morgan to get a QB shot in either the draft or FA.

    • If you need someone to run your multi-billion dollar business, maaayyyybe don't hire a guy whose previous work experience includes repeated blows to the head and literal brain damage but IDK.
    • Extrapolate that with every QB for that matter. I guarantee you there's quite a bit of missed opportunities and yards left on the field for everyone. Many NFL QBs deal with WRs not putting in A+ effort, subpar o-line play and other deficiencies. The great ones are able to rise above these issues and create opportunities for plays. Guys like Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes can both play in and out of structure, as well as find ways to get yards when things break down and mask mistakes by throwing guys open, creating opportunities from nothing, etc. Bryce Young has only shown he's able to make things happen when the rest of the team picks up his slack. Very rarely does he create those opportunities himself. When this is a consistent pattern year after year with Bryce where he shows up lackluster, it's a concern. This is year three and he should be elevating the team as a first overall pick this franchise traded up for.  He was far from elevating anyone against JAX. In fact, he needed others to elevate and create for him. Excuses may be fine for a rookie, but this is year three for the first overall pick. Not looking good so far.
    • I think the worst issue is coaching. Countless bad snaps, XL not getting his feet in or trying on runs plays, our centre being down field when he didn't need to be. All seem to be from poor coaching for me. I believe Canales is to soft to rip the players a new one when the fug up. Plus I honestly believe that Canales is slow getting his plays in giving Bryce less time to diagnose and adjust to the defence. Don't worry I could of head butted Bryce for that fumble and the 4th down throw aways but the other plays are explainable to me
