Statement from Michael Jordan,

As many of you know by now our team has finalized a trade involving Gerald Wallace. Needless to say, this was a difficult decision for our organization. Gerald epitomized everything we want our team to be about and we cannot thank him enough for his contributions to the Charlotte Bobcats. As the trade deadline approached, we were presented with an opportunity that we felt was in the long term best interest of the team.

The two first round draft picks we received will be part of the foundation that the future of this team will be built upon. We also were able to secure players that we believe will continue to help us remain competitive as we strive to reach the playoffs this year. At the same time, the contracts we acquired will afford us the flexibility to be aggressive during the off-season. Since becoming owner of the team, I have been consistent in stating that we are in this to build an organization that can compete for an NBA championship.

I will not waver from this goal and everything we do will be to get us in position to have sustained success in this league. As the competitive landscape continues to change, this trade will get us one step closer to having a team that can compete with the elite in the Eastern Conference. I cannot express how much I appreciate your support and trust as we continue the process of building a team that all of our fans can be proud of.

Someday people will understand MJ really does want to win in this league. He never played to just win; he wanted to annihilate his competition. He has mistakes but each of us make them everyday as well, but to question this man wanting to win out of all the owners all professional sports drive to win is ludicrous. Especially, when he is epitomized as the athlete that every player should be in every sport. His drive,determination, work ethic, and killer instincts.

It sucks Wallace has left, but MJ is right about the cap space and building a team through the draft. Look at OKC, they are going to be dominate for years to come and rebuilt through the draft.

Wallace wasn't bringing a legit championship run here. Not taking anything away from him because he should always be a Bobcat icon but he reached his peak and is beginning the downside of his career. I am a Sixers fan but have always had a softspot for the Bobcats and go to quite a few games a year so I hope they can build a great team through the draft. What's done is done.

Jackson will move over to small forward - where he's more effective. And Henderson will start at shooting guard.

Kwame keeps his starting spot. Cunningham will also get plenty of minutes.

All I get from this is Jordan is taking a huge risk and we are a lot more likely to end up like Cleveland or Minn, rather than OKC.

Sorry that your upset that Wallace was traded but it had to happen. The Bobcats as they were weren't going anywhere, didn't have any wiggle room. Now they have a few expiring contracts, a few extra draft picks and can build a young core in the hopes of either landing a superstar in the draft or getting one to come to Charlotte with the new found cap space they will have next season. They got rid of over 10 million in cap space for next season with this trade and should have around 28 or so.

Now hold up, assuming we can package these picks to move up lets say to five. And lets assume Harrison Barnes is there at 5. We take him trade Jax and Diaw and our new young starting lineup of Augustine, Hendo, Barnes, TT, Cunningham/Kwame isn't looking so bad

by the way Harrison isnt a necessity (to tell you the truth I hope he stays another year) if we can get anyone I want Sullinger, Kyrie, or Derrick Williams in that order

      Yep. I was hoping for and calling for a day three guy. But I didn’t research the position to say if we should or should‘t have jumped at a particular guy at a particular spot.    And everything I read said it was a poor draft for RBs depth wise. I guess when Seattle takes a backup RB in the 1st, that kind of backs that up.    I definitely think we should keep 4 running backs and if King can play well enough then keep him too.    I believe I heard Canales say we are a running team (talking about drafting a WR he will be needing to block as well as catch). Well if we are gonna be a running team by identity we don’t need to stock the WR room to overflowing. If one room has to sacrifice, it should not be the RB room given our circumstances.

      If there's a pattern I'm definitely picking up from Dan and company is a philosophy of making trades where we try not to sacrifice the number of draft picks we have by day's end. In other words, we're not giving up three picks for one, or giving up a future pick to make a pick today. And even if we give up something at the start, we make trades later to make up for that initial loss. Here's how it stacked up for 2026: How we started: 19, 51, 83, 119, 158, 159, 200 How we ended: 19, 49, 83, 129, 144, 151, 227 (no future picks sacrificed) Ultimately, we moved up two spots in the second to ensure we got someone we coveted, gave up a few spots for our fourth round pick, but then had better picks in the 5th (and got really good value out of them), and had a worse 7th rounder which isn't that big of a loss anyways.  At this point, we can question who they draft, but they're pretty good maneuvering across the draft board.
