Gantt Says Longer Cam Talk Drags Out....

Yes . . . or it's a smokescreen . . . or it's a DOUBLE smokescreen . . . or what if we act like we want Cam and we really do but we get talked into to trading out of the pick for an awesome deal, but then Hurney realizes that Newton is his one true quarterback and runs in the rain to Radio City Music Hall where he barges through the door and announces that he will trade all of our draft picks for the next three years to Buffalo, and all he ever really wanted was Cam. Then he walks up on stage and hands Cam a Carolina Panthers jersey. Roll Credits . . . what if THAT is a smokescreen?

Man the draft is complicated.

what if this is like that movie Inception and this is a dream within a dream and the Panthers are trying to plant the idea of Cam going #1 in the mind of Al Davis so he will give us his 1st, 2nd, and 3rd round picks for our #1.

LOL I was about to post the same thing. The smoke screen theory is a laugh when we have the first pick.

Considering everyone in the media is mocking it to where Cam Newton falls at least to 3 if not further, and tons of people are saying we're too cheap and invested in Clausen to go after a new QB (which is wrong, but they don't know that), wouldn't it make sense that our FO would claim to be really excited about players to try to draw interest in a trade?

This isn't just a smokescreen, but it can serve more than one purpose to be interested in Cam Newton.

What he says is that, the longer it drags out, the more likely Cam is to go 1st overall, whether it's us or someone else. He said if Hurney has a chance to trade down he'll do it, but that Newton has to make "more than one person fall in love with him" for that to realistically happen.

If that was true we would be talking up AJ Green or Bowers cause we don't need those guys. Cam Newton and Fairly are two players that are needs. Also everyone knows we need a QB and Newton is ranked #1. His stock is as high as it can get so No need to talk him up.

Correct. I think it is erroneous thinking to assume that the Panthers would take him first overall based on what was said.

If our chances of drafting Newton increase due to the CBA dragging out, then the same is true for Gabbert.

Remove blinders, folks.

Maock on NFL Network: If you need a franchise QB and you have Gabbert (for example) in the top 10 and he is your guy, you move up to the first pick to get him. He mentioned "and you are picking at #7..."

Funny. SF has a new coach who needs a QB, not likely to go after Cam, and they have fewer other needs than other teams in the top 10.

    • This is from 5 months ago. It was one or the other. Trade for one or draft one. We apparently called the Jets about Wilson. We also talked to the Seahawks about Metcalf. Drafting our own guy was the best course of action given the required investment. Regardless now is the time for Bryce Young to produce. We are fourth amongst all teams in cap spending on the OL. Back to back first round picks at WR and multiple young TE draft picks now. Very solid and respectable backfield. New pieces across the defense. The time is now.
    • That was just the worst time to have their worst game of the season. One key deal was the broncos guess the Panthers would NOT change any plays or flow to the game. Another key point overlook that bronco defense was truly one of the best in the NFL history. It was the best defense the Panthers faced that year, by far. They were not ready for it, but broncos were ready for the Panthers. Mix in that bad luck, poor refs showcase, and this is the golden boys last game........ Panthers needed to win by 20 and the broncos defense was not going to allow that.  Panthers were the faviotes and I believe they also thought that it was going to easier than them destorying NFC playoff teams as they marched to the SB. I've heard darin Gantt say the play calls were to give remmers help, but for some reason the team never did it. During the year they never had that problem, so maybe never practiced giving help via TE/RB, or WR chip. Cam was superman that year, no need for any adjustments...... Until you meet a legendary defense with studs at all levels, Think about it, Peyton was throwing wingless dunks for the whole season, the defense had to carry his corpse to the SB. That's how good they were, no many defense are able to get to the playoffs and win a SB without decent QB play. If you recall the beginning of that denfese took Tim Teblows and his non-throwing arse to the playoffs couple years before. That's insane the level of defense needed to overcome.
    • Who cares if he paid for such small benefits out of his own pocket? The NCAA is a joke. They need to be offering such anyway, especially for Uber rides (which actually seems like a good idea).
