REPORT: Rico Dowdle is rumored to be open for trade by the Panthers

Trade him and he is still probably a top 10 cap hit for us next year

then you got the issue of Rico looking good….and having lots of options elsewhere after this year.

then your RB room is Etienne.  I don’t even count Brooks at this point given the back to back ACLs

We don’t know how Rico will look the next 9 games. Well, maybe against the Saints. But people are goi g to commit resources to stopping him now that they have seen what we did with him.

You were quick, I edited to say that I understood your point about the claim, after reading a couple more posts.

I hear you about Rico. And I can’t say that my scenario will happen but I feel like they will try to make us one dimensional.
I guess that hinges on is Rico good enough to stop them from shutting him down? If he is, that is pretty huge. Most backs aren’t able to excel with a concerted effort to bottle them up.

GB would have an easier time shutting Chuba down imo. Imagine the meltdown if Canales starts him.

I want to really see how Rico looks against GB's defense. Just to see if his two 200yd games really were because of crappy defenses. I know where I'm betting.

If he hit those kinds of numbers my jaw would drop.
Some of the holes against Dallas were literally truck sized. He did his part and was great but that ain’t gonna happen every time.

I think those four games let the cat of of the bag. Two where Rico crushed it, two where Chuba didn’t and Rico still looked good.
Probably have to eat some of Chuba’s contract.

I don’t know how that really helps us.

It would depend how much of chubas contract we have to eat. I don't think that is necessarily prohibitive depending. Especially given he just isn't as productive as what we need

Trading our good players is what Panthers do best.

This would literally be the dumbest fuging move ever, so it sounds like something we would do.

I started seeing the rumors yesterday…  im not sure if there’s fire there because being a home state guy, I know national media loves to speculate on trades where we’re sending out valuable assets to the blue blood teams because we have historically been “feeder” teams for them…  but again, if there is fire there, this just makes zero fuging sense.

It makes sense.

i don’t see why people don’t get it.

Dowdle will be 28 after his simple 1 year contract with this lousy org.

So you want to sign him and overallocate our RB room for a guy we’ve only seen a 1/2 Matt Moore sample size from? Everyone just needs to take a beat.

If we’re not paying him then absolutely listen to calls. Every player has a price. This team has no untouchables outside of McMillan and Brown.

No I understand it from that perspective, but if you’re trying to win, you keep him and play him.  While trading him if you don’t plan on paying him makes sense, we also chose to not keep Foreman after an amazing run to close that year out and it took us this long to find a similarly explosive RB that fits our offense.  And while I appreciate all Chuba has done, we ultimately chose to pay him for being a good guy, and then got better production out of Rico on a one year deal.  if we chose to pay him, it would likely not be anything near what Chuba got.  So, my opinion is, if you’re trying to win, you trade Chuba, and ultimately whatever you give Rico likely fills the salary slot Chuba’s number was already occupying, and we get more production while also opening up more carries for our future back in Etienne.

Fair enough - if the mindset is winning absolutely. They’re a tad confusing though. I think we’re fine holding right now unless a good deal comes in from let’s say a NE

Given the pattern, I’m convinced Cuba stays, we pay Rico but then Brooks looks legit in 26. The potential lesson being - stop paying RBs

Foreman isn't a great example since he fell off a cliff after the 1 year with the panthers and is playing for no one this year at age 29.

He was great for us but if anything this is a good example of why you try to get anything for dowdle
