I mean...it kinda is 😕

It might not be a "substantial" portion, but we genuinely do have people who are still upset after games we've won because...stats.

Kinda silly in my opinion, but...

Go ahead and name the posters that expect Bryce to be Mahomes or Cam. It's more his most ardent fans that bring them up.

The reason we "quote stats" is because people insist we want HoF level play, when we just want a consistent, competitive offense, and that relies on decent QB play.

The vast majority of "haters" just hate bad QB play. There are some people that have become far too nitpicky but when we're three seasons in and he's still this inconsistent, I don't entirely blame them.

Anyway I hope Bryce continues to improve.

Everyone has their own way of processing. I personally would prefer to avoid spending the entire bye week recycling the same arguments about Bryce Young. I think we've got all the angles quite well covered at this point.

This is a watershed moment for the team if there ever was one.

Canales Bryce and the Panthers will either bring their A-game and look like a surging playoff team trending upward against the lowly Saints or they will revert to the same old same old and it will be another edition of disappointment which will certainly not bode well for the prospects of sweeping the Bucs.

That result whichever one it will be will dictate the ongoing conversation and hopefully it is the former and we can all begin to rally around the team after so many years of nonsense.

But. If it is indeed the latter then all involved will deserve any and all criticism because they control their own destiny at this moment moreso than they have in a long time which is a pivotal crossroads for our weary fanbase.

Just win 🤷‍♂️

I feel that I'm Bryce neutral and it's definitely both sides.  Threads absolutely get made when he plays bad (rightfully so) and when he plays good.  He is the most controversial player on our team at the most critical position.  Of course threads are going to be made about him after each performance good or bad. I think it depends on what side of the aisle you are own.  You clearly aren't a fan of his so it appears like you are getting spammed with counter threads when he plays well.  Some of the Bryce fans feel the exact opposite I am sure.  It's sports and as fans our opinions will vary.

There was a time here when you were only allowed to praise our starting quarterback and if you said anything objective or (God forbid) negative you'd automatically be called a...hater. Yeah, I think that was the term 😐

Now we're to the point of you can't say anything positive about our...ummm, quarterback without being labelled a "stan", a homer, or a member of "the Bryce brigade" 😄

Nobody's told me yet whether membership in this has benefits or perks. Doubt I'd join anyway though (not my thing).

Swear, sometimes I wonder if the people to the extremes of a given argument hate the people trying to stay objective more than they do their direct opposites. Sure seems that way sometimes.

Either way, the end result tends to wind up being less actual substantive discussion, more stat spamming and barrages of "he sucks", ".oh yeah, well you suck more!" 😡

Bottom line though, there is an actual real world discussion to be had about Bryce: the good, the bad, what should happen, what will happen, and all the in-betweens.

Maybe we can have that talk at some point down the road.

I can sign on to that.

Heck, as a fanbase we've seen so little winning over the last several years, it'd be nice to just enjoy it while it's happening.

Cause if it stops, who knows how long it'll be till we see it again?

No, I mean the Bryce Brigade is a very select group.  The haters are not coming for Jon Snow because he compliments Bryce’s 4th down throws lol.

My thread predicting Bryce would get the fifth year option (again, not even arguing that he should, just predicting he will) is up to 34 pages now. Likewise, the one wherein ESPN guys did the same now stands at 12 pages.

Who do you think is driving those discussions?

(Hint: It ain't the "Bryce Brigade")

There's a thread whose sole purpose was to mention that Bryce was up for Player of the Week honors. What happened there?

Hell, this thread is ostensbly about a guy on another team. How long did it take for someone to bring Bryce into the topic? Was it for positive reasons?

This is the mood right now, and it's why, in the midst of at least a potential playoff push, we're not universally jubilant about our team's successes.

And this coming Sunday, the cycle will start all over again.

This dude has led his team to 11 PPG since taking over, which would be an NFL-worst by more than 3 PPG this season. He just put up 3 points at home for his offense against the Falcons two weeks ago. Even Rattler has averaged 5 more PPG this season, and he was benched for how poorly he was leading their offense. Rattler is a second-year 5th round pick with only 14 starts in his NFL career and is younger than Shough, so I think it’s still fair game to compare the two with the exact same supporting cast around them.

Becoming a Shough fanboy is what happens when I guess you just read box scores on ESPN. You can fawn over Completion % and YPG but at the end of the day if a QB isn’t leading his offense to score points, that’s a pretty giant elephant in the room that I can’t just hand-wave.

Is Shough an awful bust? Of course not, his career has barely started, and has a lot of good and a lot of bad like most rookies. But do I think he has been super duper impressive so far? Naw. We should decide as a fanbase if we’re actually serious about wanting better than mediocrity, or if we glaze starting QBs who score 11 PPG. I don’t think those are compatible positions.

Apples and oranges.   No one is coming for Jon Snow and the neutral party when they compliment Bruce when it is just normal talk about a game.  Which is the literal picture you are trying to paint above.  I mean that’s exactly what you argued.

if you start a thread that is about the future of the franchise at QB going forward at QB and what we should do or are thinking! Yeah, the anti Bryce crowd is going to very vocal on that thread because the literal topic is extending Bryce and the future at QB (which is what an anti Bryce position is literally about.  Moving on.  The future)

This thread? I literally called out people in their feelings wanting to make this about Bryce and their hurt feelings eroding over.  You can find where I literally calls them out go make another Bryce thread if they didn’t want to talk Saints and the most relevant thing about them.  And the thread went exactly as we all knew it would.

Bryce deserved player of the week talk for Atlanta.  I have always acknowledged his great games.  A shame there are only two

Has anybody actually said anything of that sort? (if they did, I missed it)

I get why some folks rely on stats. I don't, and honestly I'm not sure why people keep trying to convince me I should.

(it ain't gonna happen) 😕

Consistency is my big thing too, and the lack of it is why I want to move on from Bryce. But again, that's an argument I make without denying that he can indeed play in (and yes, win) NFL games.

Hating bad QB play is fine. Denying when you see good QB play is silly.

Let's be real for a second...

This may not be you specifically, but there are some folks for whom Bryce can do absolutely nothing to win their approval.

Some are always gonna want a bigger / stronger / faster / more athletic (in some cases, Newtonesque) quarterback even if Bryce does start to play consistently. At that point, they'll just shift the argument from "we can't win with Bryce" to "well, we can't keep winning with Bryce" 😖

You know all this as well as I do.

So again, I want to move on from Bryce as well. I'd happily (hell, merrily) keep him as a backup, but I doubt there's a realistic path to that happening.

But no matter what, I'm gonna keep my debate points based in reality, and I'm not gonna be responsive to "he just sucks" level persuasion.

Is any of that unreasonable? 🤔

You don't think I'm a neutral party? 🤔

See, the problem isn't "apples vs oranges". It's "should vs will".

Sad to say, a fair number of people don't seem to comprehend the difference between those two things, and that lack of comprehension leads to a good amount of misguided discussion.

Yes in fact in this thread on page 3, someone said some of us won't be happy unless we have Mahomes or Cam... My point by bringing up stats is actually that most of us DON'T care about having a QB that is throwing tons of yards, we care about having a QB that can move the ball, but Bryce is unable to do anything consistently.

I'm glad you agree we should move on from Bryce - I also don't care about stats specifically but I think they give context to just how inconsistent he's been, which imo does matter.

    • It all sounds great. The only unknowns are injuries and how they will need to be addressed. Horn has a history as does the newly added Jaelen Phillips and Cooker has yet to play an entire season as well. And then there are the Ikey's - totally unexpecteded injuries that put a major wrench in your plans. I do think its a great plan though.
    • If we pay Bryce like a franchise QB we're completely and utterly buttfuged.
    • In my view, the realistic expectation for this team to compete will start 2027.  At that time, I think we could be looking at the following (this is HIGHLY speculative):   QB:  You know, Bryce.  I am not a fan, but they don't ask me.  But there is reason for hope--and here it is.  Bryce will be entering his prime.  Since we are likely to pay him, there will be changes that I include throughout this exercise--I realistically speculate on what they are going to do with Bryce and then I realistically speculate on what means in terms of the cap and other positions. Bryce HAS IMPROVED.  The idea is that if you give him more weapons and protection, that will continue.  His career:   At this rate, if his growth continues, by 2027 we should expect nearly 30 TDs and about 12 Interceptions and a Rating of about 98.  His completion percentage should settle at 65-66% or so.  If that happens, you can win with it. The following stats demonstrate how the Panthers will be able to afford it (and re-sign Ickey) My guess is they will require about $60m per year. This is why rookies who can play are important.  It also helps us see the blueprint.  You may disagree, but this is the cruel realities of the salary cap. Robert Hunt:  Cut post June 1 and save $19m.  Who do you replace him with?  Ickey. Tershawn Wharton:  Cutting him saves nearly $15m.  We should all hope to see Aaron Hall (UDFA) make the roster and play well.  Regardless, this is a position we would likely have to address in the next draft. Trevin Moehrig:  Cutting Moehrig as the starting SS saves this team $16.5m.   Ransom will be on year 3 of a cheap rookie deal and should be more than ready to take the reins.  their styles are similar.  Furthermore, FS Wheatley (R, 4th round) will be starting. Taylor Moton:  So much depends on his knee, but I have an idea that he can play another 3 years.  extending him could save the team about $5m per year.  Cutting him outright would save the team about $21m. In the most drastic situation, we have to cut Moton and the other three players mentioned.   We would need (in all likelihood) a starting DT and RT.  It is possible that the DE would be addressed, but Wharton's production (so far) could be equaled by a rookie.  Look for a cut free agent and a 2027 draft pick here.  If you cut Moton, you save $21m, and that would be the only big hole to fill.  Having Ickey at RG gives you some depth at T, and Ickey could be the guy.  T could be pick in the 2027 draft (first round), fwiw.  It saves you $21m while costing you $5m, for example. We get younger, creating a core of Freeling, Hecht, and the RT first rounder in 2027) along with Ekownu (second contract in the $15m range, and Lewis, whose contract would be in the $16m range if not extended.)  The OL cuts (Hunt, Moton) would save $40m.  The OL would get younger and still solid with veterans at G.   By cutting Wharton (no brainer if his play stays the same) and Moehrig (good player--but we have Ransom on a rookie contract who would not be that much of a drop off--if any) in addition to Hunt and Moton, we would save over $70m in cap room. We would be able to give Bryce bag  and we would have enough to re-sign Ickey (if the knee is not too risky) to a Guard contract (probably at a discount, coming off that injury).  Furthermore, we could add a RT in the draft (or a RG if Ickey moves to RT) and that would be the only large hole to fill. Correct my logic if you see issues-- On defense, in addition to the aforementioned, Scott ($2m contract) is out, replaced by a 4th round rookie contract. CB Jackson's contract ($7.8m) expires and he is (possibly) replaced by a rookie contract.  At Edge, patrick Jones II's $10m contract expires and he is likely a reserve, and his role is absorbed by Phillips, Scourton, Princely, and possible an UDFA like Isaiah Smith or a 2027 draft pick.   These productive developmental players over the past 2 drafts will pay huge dividends.  On paper, I see the team getting much younger and possibly better while cutting nearly $100m and reallocating that money to get more production.
