Shaq is a small piece on the Bills defense. Here he would have had significantly more responsibility which would have opened more opportunities for him to be exposed in the open field. You guys are hopped up on copium suggesting anything else.

I don’t know what these dumb 4chan sayings mean

Rozeboom sucks. A linebacker on the wrong side of thirty with multiple fake ligaments is not a solution.

if you’re stomping your feet because he’d be a marginal improvement then sure whatever point conceded.

Rozeboom and Shaq are irrelevant.

The bigger picture is we have poured an abundance of resources into the offense to the detriment of the defense and our offense can't even outduel a rookie on a rebuilding Saints team.

The only way to correct course defensively is to invest draft capital.

You’ve got to get to the ball to miss a tackle and I don’t know how much range Shaw even has anymore. It’s not like the bills defense is r a steaming pile.

like yeah Rozeboom is trash I’ve been shitting on him since day one and I’d like for someone to be on this team that I like.

Shaqs best game this year was Canales and his JO buddy didn’t change their audibles from the previous season

Rozebum has great range but being out of position all the time hasn't been much help. I would rather have kept Shaq in hindsight, knowing that Jewell was not going to work out as a replacement. Now, we couldn't have known that was going to transpire and Shaq was coming off a very serious injury.

Still, it would have been nice to have one competent LB in the mix rather than Dumb & Dumber in Rozebum and Wallace.

I like Shaq but I'm not going to delude myself into believing he wouldn't be out there whiffing on tackles too. Is he an upgrade over Rozeboom? Yeah but at 31 he was never going to save this linebacker room.

no way in hell shaq was going to save our defense or is in any future plans because of his age and recent injuries

but he was willing to come back even on a 1 year vet min deal. he would have been the perfect 1 year stop gap until we could find an eventual replacement and also mentor the younger guys

instead we have just rolled with an even worse option in rozebum and hoped for the best

The overwhelming majority of our roster investments the last few years have been about justifying the Bryce Young trade and selection. All roads lead back to that.

The Panthers have been an up and down franchise but we have not been without success before Tepper came along. And we had always been primarily a defensive team identity wise. We need to get back to what has had them competitive over the years. We need to shore up the defense. And we need to reset at defensive coordinator.

Unfortunately I fear the decision making of our front office remains clouded by their desire to salvage Bryce Young and there is good reason to wonder if they will continue to overcompensate in that aspect instead of moving forward with a methodical approach to making the whole roster more competitive.

I would agree to an extent.

This isn't bashing Horn, I just didn't realize he was trending so poorly on the tackling front the past two seasons. I do remember a couple of really bad ones this season but not that many. It might be something you would need to sit down and look at each play. Maybe going for broke on a strip or diving in desperation after getting beaten badly?

It's not something I associate with Horn so it was a surprise to see him being that bad.

I think you're going down the right path.  He's really, really aggressive and it bites him in the arse from time to time.

All our DBs, including Jaycee, would look a lot better if we didn't have the worst pass rush in the league

No doubt but that shouldn't have an impact on the missed tackles.

I will say that it is certainly possible that since our LB's and safeties struggle in run support and tackling that perhaps more of these guys are getting back to the CB's than necessary. That's certainly a possibility.

Yeah, that would have to be a real breakdown of tape. I will say his first three years in the league were pretty good on the tackling front, so it was a surprise to see those stats.

    • As much as I despise Billy B, his philosophy on QBs is how I would approach things if I were a GM. You always keep looking for your next starter.  He has Bledsoe, who got injured and his backup ended up being the GOAT. Even while he had that going, he kept getting his next guy and developing them. When Brady got hurt, Cassel stepped in and went 11-5 and they missed the wild card by dumb luck. Who knows how far they would have gone if they had gotten in. Jimmy Gs career started in NE. There were others, but he always kept looking.  You can't be afraid to keep looking for your next starter, but it looks like we're afraid to look for more than a marginal one. If you're going to offer a $25m contract with incentives, that screams marginal QB. It also screams you're just a transition until we find our guy. After a 10 or 11 win season, he's not accepting that offer. And then you're in a Daniel Jones situation. Do you pay for a year of success and pray it wasn't a one year wonder?  To this point, Bryce has really produced nothing, yet for whatever reason, our FO has not even sniffed at the idea that we need a real QB room with real QBs. Dalton was never starter potential, Plummer was a joke. KP certainly isn't, neither is Grier.  Our approach to the QB room needs to be one of strength not fear. Bring in guys who can compete or who you think can compete. This is THE elite position, in an elite sport, paid premium salary, where production matters. Either you produce or you can lose your job. It's not mean, it's just the reality of the position.  And I'm really just tired of our candy ass approach to it.
    • If you plug Bryce onto the Pro Bowl roster you might have a chance to compete for a SB. If he's surrounded by top tier talent with a top tier defense on the other side, a field flipping punter, and a kicker good from 60+ you might have a chance. But that means you basically have to recreate Saban's Bama in the NFL and that's impossible... and Bryce couldn't win a championship in that environment either. What the Panthers didn't realize when they got so obsessed with his "PG mentality" was that what they were looking st was a "barely checks the box PG". The basketball equivalent of Bryce would be an undersized PG with marginal athleticism who can make the basic plays but adds nothing to the team in terms of elevating the overall team. Not a great shooter, not a great defender, not a great driver. Just a guy who can basically get you into the offense and be a matador on defense. Basically a placeholder while you look to upgrade the PG position.
