I think Tepper forced Rivera into a 3-4 when he took over, can't really tell how much influence he's pushing nowadays since he's layed low the last couple years

He did but he didn’t dictate Rhule having that hybrid 3-3-5 with Snow. That was Snow’s system. I think we just run a 3-4 now because Frank did and he hired Evero who runs that system.

I was never clear to me that Frank put that staff together. One of the problems with that season.

In other news…  people, don’t forget the fans in Pittsburgh were chanting Fire Tomlin. It wasn’t good.

He has his share of pride and the organization was walking a fine line to keep him and have that popping up next year.

Don't underestimate how a bad hire can flip that on it's head.

IMO, this was a mutual parting of ways because he likely would have been canned otherwise.

Also, I am willing to bet his media job lasts until a good HC opportunity presents itself.

This is speculation, and at odds with what the owner said. Why can't we just believe two people not known for bullsh¡tting at their word?

Tomlin would've had his pick of jobs, and will again. "Good" NFL coaching opportunities don't come along all the time, if by "good" you mean coaching for an A+ organization, but they're all good. Sometimes people get burned out and need a change. I think that if Tomlin gets the itch, he'll coach again, but if he enjoys his new gig he may stay in the media (á la Bill Cowher).

I don't think you can do any better than the Ravens job, and it's not like we hadn't heard rumors about Green Bay and Buffalo, and maybe even the 49ers. Tomlin would've been considered for them all. Sometimes the stated message is the one that's the truest and simplest.

Yeah, I'd think so as well.  He's only one year removed from fielding history's worst D.  I would think it would just be Rooney rule or kicking the tires at this point.

Evero could be a better hc than he is a dc. I don't think he's a very good dc unless his talent is a perfect fit for the scheme. No one else may be willing to take the Raiders job

Head coach and coordinator require different skill sets. Couple of guys have all the skill sets, it is rare.
EE could transition, never know until you put him in the job, like all coordinators who get the chance to try being HC.
And that is why I was really never against hiring retreads. I think it is an acquired skill for some and they can learn a lot from their failure the first time. Of course some just plain are not cut out for it.

I feel like the Raiders job is top 3 opening. Mendoza, Crosby, Bowers, Jeanty and 100M in cap space to spend

And that 1.1.
They have a long way to go, but it is sort of a blank slate for a coach to work with.

    • frank, that ball was very catchable where it hit his hands. I don't even think he bent at waist until after he dropped it. He actually slows his pace to position himself to catch the ball. That will never be a pass I'd blame on the QB.   NFL+ _ Live Games on mobile, NFL RedZone, NFL Network and More! - Google Chrome 2026-01-15 13-54-54.mp4
    • https://overthecap.com/position/left-guard   Lewis is the 9th highest paid Left Guard in the league. I bet it was higher when the deal was done two years ago.    https://overthecap.com/position/right-guard Hunt #3 highest Right Guard   There is a tab in the upper left portion of the graphic that allows looking at the different positions.
    • It was a great play, but a better catch than throw. The TE boxes out Moehrig for position. Jumps to catch the ball. Catches it and turns 180 degrees while he's still in the air. Comes down and toe taps to stay in bounds and lunges for the goal post. That first part where he boxes out Moehrig for the ball is huge. If he doesn't do that and simply fades back to catch the ball (this is why Bryce doesn't trust XL), then Moehrig likely undercuts the pass for a break up or INT. Stafford trusts his receivers to make plays for him. Here I slowed it down so you can see it. Great play but amazing catch and score by the TE.  NFL+ _ Live Games on mobile, NFL RedZone, NFL Network and More! - Google Chrome 2026-01-15 13-45-32.mp4 NFL+ _ Live Games on mobile, NFL RedZone, NFL Network and More! - Google Chrome 2026-01-15 13-44-37.mp4
