That was me my first time with shine. The old school kind not this flavored stuff.

My first experience with shine was from a jar alleged to brewed by Popcorn Sutton. I wouldn't be able to tell you, it tasted like turpentine. I had a jar of white lightning from the Popcorn Sutton Distillery from just before it closed. Tasted about the same. Either one would send your head into a whirlwind.

The good stuff is smooth as water and as dangerous as lightning. You only remember the first sip.

We had a bottle of apple pie whiskey a few months ago. Tasted just like apple pie, so smooth and tasty you would swear it was out of your grandma's oven. The hangover the next day, not so smooth. Worth every damn penny we paid for it. That was some good shine.

I had no provenance on my sampling. But there were many OG types in attendance and it was the real deal. Long before TV shows about it, pie flavors, all that stuff.
It was potent. And smooth which is why I was able to down enough to do that with. Everclear is just fire next to that, on your tongue. You could sip this stuff. They didn’t tell me what it was, just handed me the bottle and I didn’t sip.

Ever heard of an annual thing call the Good Time Boogie which was a NC based weekend long party? I suppose you might call them a red neck slash hippie crowd at the time.  I was at the first two.
I moved away but heard years later that it had rolled on for a pretty long time so maybe some people know about it. This was like, 1975 probably. I was but a young pup, up for about anything. It was like a mini redneck woodstock. The rednecks brought the shine. Multiple hogs were cooked. Much depravity. Which I was too young and innocent for.
And all peaceful despite all that alcohol. Try that today.

I just remember the Popcorn Sutton name from my first jar because it was such an out of the normal name. A friend of mine bought me the most recent jar on a trip to Nashville.

I'm not picky either, it just has to be really good. I've got a local shiner I buy from now when he's brewing.

I haven't heard of the Good Time Boogie but I've been to similar. Something about good pig pickin, good liquor, and just some good Ole boys and girls having a good time I really miss. And I think much depravity might be an understatement.

I was a little out of my element with that shine but I still remember the flavor. It was smooth. Like Snow described it.

Young and stupid and they handed it to me and I turned it up without asking questions.

The questions came after I woke up😂

You never drink corn liquor. You sip it. I've seen many a rookie think they can handle a big drink and end up face down in the dirt 30 minutes later.

    • I see Bryce's development this way: He improved when his supporting cast improved.  TMac and Dowdle saved his arse last year, but in fairness, most good QBs have good WRs and good RBs--and good OLs.   The 2025 OL underperformed, actually. They were above average, but they should have been elite if you consider the salary cap.   As soon as we signed Lewis and Hunt, I started thinking, "That's not sustainable.  With Ickey about to get paid a LT salary, Moton and Hunt grabbling $50m per season combined, and Lewis around $17m--that would be nearly $100m and the Center just walked.  Yikes.  What does that mean?  Rico walks, Mays walks, and we do not have a top 5 WR on a second contract.  We do not have an elite TE, and only 1 is on a modest second contract. And now Bryce will demand $50m for his incremental rise to mediocrity?   So when we sign Bryce, we will get weaker at other positions.  Hunt, Moton, maybe Ickey and Lewis, will all be casualties--that is the right move regardless (not sure yet about Ickey, but he was not elite) Bryce is one lucky, entitled camper.  No competition since being drafted, and he lost his job for a while to the aging clipboard holder.  Now we are bringing in UDFAs and busts to compete with him.
    • Probably not.  If we are taking a QB, it would be a prospect to replace Bryce and not a flyer type player.  I can't say for sure, but I doubt he would have cracked the top 3-4 QBs even if he were to play this coming season.
    • The Giants, Cardinals  and Dolphins should have moved on, but they didn't and ended up cutting their QB early into a monster second contract and had to eat a TON of dead cap money.
