It has been reported that they offered him the buyout even if he resigned, in which case yes, they were giving him an option to save some face publicly with none of the downside. I also am not surprised he didn’t take the option and don’t hold it against him. This was his dream job, I wouldn’t quit my dream job either.

Plus he only held up the process by like 24 hours at most. First they gave him a chance to keep his job, then gave him a chance to resign.

Hubert never seemed to have much of a bench, Dean always has a decent bench to pull from. NIL probably the most likely culprit,  but you still need to play the bench to develop players.

Hubert had plenty of bench Hubert just refused to play his bench while he ran his starters into the ground.  We had a top 50 4* recruit with offers from Kansas, Tennessee, Ohio State, etc. who barely saw the court this year.

Yeah, Hubert should go coach Siena since he only wants to play five people in a game

Keeping his job was a complete farce and I would have told them to go fug themselves when they asked him to prepare a "plan" short of him time traveling and bringing in Micheal Jordan he was always getting fired

I agree, I was just providing a timeline for those thinking he held up the process.

Looks like there's a good chance it's Billy Donovan

Ok GIF

The guy has not coach college in ten years and in that span its greatly changed. Still take him over Davis, I want to see the presser and if billy still has fire in his eyes for college non-sense.....plus you know billy will want a multi-million staff.

This is interesting, very....... glad the old guard FINALLY steps aside......

Hubert had one style and that was it.  Never played his two big men at the same time. Minimal bench and never used what he had.

I hope they bring in a young aggressive coach. Someone who can bring UNC back to greatness.

His style was to suck.

Billy Donovan is 60 years old, the same age as Bill Guthridge was when he got the job. Everyone acknowledges in hindsight that Gut was too old. Don't repeat the same mistake, especially given that the football program is currently dealing with an even worse version of the same problem.

Exactly why I’d pass on him
