It is time to Consider the Likelihood of WR at #19

To be clear, I am not advocating for drafting a WR.  As for the OTs we have met with--I am not sure how or when or where and whether or not that even matters.

I can say this about OL:  Those tackles would not play much (unless there is an injury and Fano is probably going to be a guard.  Lomu seems to have slipped a bit (based on the perspectives of crackheads who publish on the interweb or broadcast from their pods.) I like Lomu.  I like Proctor--I think he is the #1 OT but the weight (he was 390) scares me.  Imagine him with $10m in his bank account at the gas station when the 16-pack of Reeses Peanut Butter Cup is right below his fingertips at the counter.  NOOOO!

Blake Miller might be the most practical option, to be honest. I watched his vidoes for several minutes (not to exceed 10 because my father played for the Gamecocks when I was born) and I was impressed.   At 19?  A bit rich, but we don't know what the GMs know.

Bryce's contract is another issue.  If they decide to give him a bag of money (suicide hotline 1-800-JUMP), they are going to have to part ways with some vet contracts.  Moton, Hunt, and Lewis come to mind.  Ickey could be gone too.  So....I assume we will have a starting center by next year...

I’ll also say agin, this is why I think we’re in a great spot this year to trade down, and maybe meeting with all these WRs is a smokescreen to try and make a WR needy team over trade to get our pick so we don’t take the guy they want.

While at the same time, if Downs falls outside the Top 10, I’d be comfortable with darn near any trade NOT involving our 2027 1st (very well could be needed for a QB), to move up and get him.  He’s going to be one of th best Safeties in the game for years to come.

If that happens then Chefs kiss to Morgan.  I am still holding out hope the Browns, Cards or Jets fall in love with Simpson at 19 and we go that route.

McShay thinks the Chiefs hold the cards at 9 in regards to a position run.  If they go Tackle it could spark the run on lineman, if they go WR the same could happen as well.  The blue chip guys Tier 1 guys seem to end around picks 7/8 so after that its all a huge lump of seemingly similar graded players

Hell ya, give me one of those bad teams’ high 2nd rounder along with their 2027 1st and I’d walk away from 19 with a huge smile on my face.

Thats my wet dream scenario.  Getting the jets 1rst with them playing a green rookie qb.   That has top 5 pick if not top 3 written all over it

I'd take that and run. We could still get an immediate contributor, and position ourselves for one of many blue chips for next year's draft. Being positioned for our next QB (if we move on from Bryce) edge, tackle or WR would just be icing on the cake.

I have no problem drafting a WR, even as high as the 2nd, but I do have an issue with using a precious 1st rounder on it.

Another WR is a need, but we also have a lot of other needs, and the goal should always be to draft 1st rounders that you expect to be on the team for 10 years if they stay healthy.

In regards to Coker, one of two things happen.  He keeps getting better and becomes our legit #2 to T-Mac and we have to pay him accordingly, or he doesn’t.

If he does, then using that 1st rounder on a WR this year was dumb.  If he doesn’t, then drafting a WR in the 1st this year would be smart, but then so would trading Coker when his perceived value would be at its highest.

If we were already had a SB contending roster, then yes, a 1st Round WR to put us over the top makes sense, but we just have too many holes to fill to use it that way… again, unless the staff just doesn’t believe in Coker’s ability to become a true #2, which I think he really can be.

I disagree. Bringing a receiver in here that's actually a legitimate, consistent playmaker, a threat to to take it to the house on any given play, including returning if he has that skill set, from one perspective is exactly what we need. Being that first rounders increase the likelihood of actually realizing what it is we're desiring then I don't have any problem with it. Half-stepping won't diversify the room, or turn Coker into more than he really is which is a good-sized possession guy.

We are in a prime spot for someone to trade up for him. Shittsburgh being one.

At the end of the day the Panthers are gonna be the Panthers.

All I can say for sure is I damn sure hope they pick the right one. When you've got the 8th pick and select the consensus best receiver of the class and a huge need like we did last year with TMac that's one thing. This is not that. At pick 19 there's a lot of room for the Panthers to overthink this as they have in the past. And so far this regime has one solid draft and one pretty ugly draft under their belts. We'll see.

Its something like the 5/6th best wr

2/3 best safety

2/3 best linebacker

3/4 best dtackle

3/4 Corner

1/2 TE

Which holds more value at 19, which has the better shot of not being a bust?

Certainly it's about value. But it's also going to end up being a situation of in our draft slot there is surely going to be a few really solid prospects and maybe even a great one that might slip through if teams go on a run on one or two specific positions. And if we don't go BPA in that instance especially if it's a highly touted defensive prospect and we elect to throw another dart at receiver because we gave up a haul to draft the smallest starting QB in the NFL we would deserve to be ridiculed.

    • Not sure how much he was a long term piece of this team.   Sucks to not have him as part of the rotation.   Looks like it's Lee Hunter time.
    • This post was an error. Oops and sorry for the errors in the previous one. Too slow to edit.   We’ll see what they do.
    • I am not sure he will put the over the games but we’ll probably have them.   Two things I am thinking.  We have 4 preseason games.  All the coaches have enough service time to know the standards that are in place for decades. If I recall it was play your starters just a series to start woth and build it up until week theee where play a lot and you have week four to set hour roster. Evaluate before cuts.   Bevell will certainly have the whole thing down pat.   I’d they don’t do the fries and frie air will worry too. Because it is set up to do that.     I have said since they went t three preseason people have to figure a new way are still feeling it out and trying things.  We don’t have to this year.
