Some highlights:

CB: The CB's however are primarily zone cover CB's with a knack for making plays on the ball. The CB's will normally play an intermediate to deep zone.

DT: The NT is in charge of the strongside A-gap and plays the 1-technique. They are supposed to be able to get through the gap as quickly as they can and need to be a true penetrator. The UT is in the 3-technique and plays hte same exact role as the NT, but is in weakside B-gap

DE: The weakside DE is supposed to contain the outside run on his side while also creating a lot of outside pressure in the passing game. The Strongside DE is supposed to control the C-gap on his side, and create a lot of outside pressure in the passing game or draw the TE in on a double team.

DL: Any of the four defensive lineman will be called to drop back into a short zone from time to time and should be quick enough to cover some ground.

WLB: The Weakside LB is in charge of cleaning up the run game to the weakside. If someone messes up their gap, he is responsible for fixing it. In the passing game, he will normally drop back into an intermediate or short zone and will be expected to blitz around 15% of the time.

SLB: The Strongside OLB is in charge of the outside in the running game and in the passing game will drop into an intermediate zone and will be expected to blitz around 50% of the time.

MLB: The Middle Linebacker will be dropping into a zone and will be expected to blitz around 65% of the time. He is also in charge of covering any and all runs in the box as the thumper in the middle.

The beast blitzing heavily and stuffing the run, yes please. Beason is going to have a career season the next time they play.

I look a SLB and think Norwood, possibly Connor.

This also makes me wonder about drafting Peterson. Do we need that much of a stud at CB to play zone?

Will be interesting to see how they use Beason, I know JJ invented this role for Trotter because what he lacked in speed and coverage ability he made up for in size and power.

He doesn't explicitly say they will run the JJ defense but I think it's can be deduced from this statement and the McDermott hire that it's likely to be very similar at least.

“Sean is somebody I worked with in the past for five seasons and I got to know very well. We very much shared the same philosophy in terms of being aggressive and an attacking style of defense that comes from being around Jim Johnson and everything kind of happened. The situation came about with (Philadelphia coach Andy) Reid when it was all happening and this was a chance to get Sean out of the shadow of Jim and a very difficult situation. But I think he handled that very well. He really showed his maturity so I was excited to have an opportunity to work with somebody I knew and somebody who shares the same philosophy.

True, but I would think Rivera would even describe his Chicago D's as aggressive and attacking. Meeks would make sense as an asset as well with keeping if that style was used.

Well, if you have a player is great in press man coverage--a 220 pounder to jam WRs at the line, and you drop him into deep zone coverage, you aren't getting your money's worth out of him. He is built to be one kind of corner in the NFL--or a safety. So there is such a thing as drafting too much CB when you take away from other positions to do so. If you have a Corvette you don't keep it in the garage.

And yes, we have too much stud at RB. We don't need 3. Everyone wants to keep this and keep that without thinking about the distribution of talent. Big picture is key here--if you focus on one postition, of course not. But if you think, "We have 3, maybe 4, starting caliber RBs and we don't have a DT who could make many other rosters, then you have a problem.

      Brother. You are wholly confusing comparing situations and applying actual standards like most other franchises do like simply getting into a playoff series and winning at least 1 or 2 series games with praising. Nobody is praising the Hawks. Nobody is praising the Magic. Nobody here likes those teams. But reality is reality. The Hawks like other franchises have traded players fired coaches etc but they can still win a couple playoff games. How is that not the bare floor for you or anyone else? What are we doing here if it isn't? We've seen eye to eye on many things over the years. But you are in the camp on the Hornets where you are emotionally attached to LaMelo where you feel the need to carry his water like he's got that juice. That's cool that you feel that way. It's your prerogative. But I differ from that viewpoint entirely. If he had that juice we would not have gotten wiped off the court in 2 play in games with 2 different coaching staffs and rosters. if people don't like hearing that well I'm sorry but how the hell is this team ever going to get better and ultimately go anywhere in the postseason if we just blindly pat them on the back for getting their asses whooped before they actually even get into the real playoffs? There seem to be some Bryce Young level standards being applied here. That's wild to me. But to each his own.

      Proctor/Freeling were always the belles of the ball where we were picking. What those two *could* become at OT was far greater than what others could be at their respective positions and I’m glad our FO could see that.
