All this defensive love...when do you think we get the QB then...I don't see having another good defensive player winning us more games IF WE CAN'T IMPROVE OFFENSIVELY.

Don't get it twisted if we went defense I'd prefer a guy like PP7, but thinking Dareus or Fairley will perform like Suh and have that kind of impact I'd like to get some of your kool-aid please.

I'm not saying Cam will resurrect us, but it adds another dimension for us offensively another avenue and to me out of the prosects coming out he has the highest ceiling, though subsequently possibly the lowest floor. Being safe is cool, and helps us be good; but I'd like to say us take a shot FINALLY to be great!

The draft isn't the only way to acquire a quarterback.

And to be clear, even if they draft Newton, he's not likely doing anything for the offense this season.

It's not the only way to acquire a DT, or DB either. To me its like ok we're better on "D" potentially, but we still don't have anything at the THE MOST IMPORTANT position offensively.

I mean how much better would we really be with a defensive player vs a QB, Gabbert included? We can't win our division on defense alone, at some point we have to improve the MOST IMPORTANT aka BIGGEST WEAKNESS on our team.

Can only imagine discussions in the Front Office's of teams.

Time to change, BPA cool but no back to back winning seasons. Two seasons in a row out of the Playoffs, time to switch things up a bit. Time to buy a new pair a shoes and wear the old ones rounds 3-7.

I'll argue that it has nothing to do with our draftin philosophy, simply the inability to develop talent, make adjustments etc. The Steelers and Green bay use BPA too and they've one pretty well.

To the Armanti question, the BPA strat is clearest in the 1st round. Things get fuzzier as the draft progresses. It's still true that the panthers are a BPA team in the 1st.

Does anybody still have us taking a DE at this point? I know McShay did.

as mentioned previously, McShay's latest mock has us taking Dareus since he says DT is a bigger need than CB and he sees Peterson or Dareus as the best players to take.

He also still likes Gabbert, but yeah.

If you want to improve a football team as quckly as possible, then you draft linemen, and buy FAs for the skill positions. Like if you're talking about putting together the best team for next season, then we could draft the best DT/DE #1, then spend the rest of the draft building depth for our o-line/d-line/special teams. In addition, you keep your skill postion players, and maybe pay them a bit more than they're actually worth, to aviod hunting for a their replacement in FA. Then you buy a veteran QB, TE (Shockey), and whatever other skill positions need to be upgraded. That's the win next season plan.

Building for the future means sacrificing next season to a certain extent. Rather than picking up big bodies high in the draft, you look to improve our future offense via the draft. That means drafting the QB of the future, and drafting players to eventually replace our aging veterans, like drafting a TE to eventaully replace shockey.

I think our plan is to win now. I'm not saying that's what I want, but it appears that is the plan. If that is the case, then I would expect Marshal to be resigned to a sweet new contract. We pass on PP, it's a skill postion, and he bites on routes and doesn't play zone well. No time to wait for him to imporve over the season, the plan is to win now, week 1.

Vet TE was added, good move. I'm expecting a vet FA OT to be added as insurance in case Otah is injured again. His mammoth size makes him more of a risk for injury. A big time FA QB will also be bought at some point imo. Win now means drafting big beef up front that can be thrown in right away. Playing DT is simple compared to other skilled positions like CB/QB/WR. If the plan is win now, I would expect our Panthers to have their eye on DE Da'Quan Bowers, DT Marcell Dareus, and DT Nick Fairley. If the Panthers are not high on any of those players, I'd expect Hurney to look for a trade partner to move down select whichever of those players is still on the board.
