Kickoff change has been approved by the competition committee

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that kickoffs will be moved from the 30-yard line to the 35-yard line next season. Touchbacks will continue to be returned to the 20-yard line.

This appears to be the modified proposal that we reported on this morning. In that proposal, the two-man wedge would still be allowed. The competition committee initially wanted to eliminate the wedge and have touchbacks returned to the 25-yard line.

KO returner less of an issue. Kasay can get it into the endzone w/ 5 extra yards. Most kickers will be able to put it in the middle or back of the endzone.

You have to think that this could create a roster spot by eliminating Lloyd.

maybe, but there is always a chance Kasay can't kick it as far as the last we saw.....so he could still be short. I think Rivera was going to eliminate the 3 kicker thing regardless.

    • It's definitely a historical issue at QB but to be perfectly blunt, we also don't do a good job of really developing almost any position if you look at the last decade or so. I tend to be on the side of that being far less a development issue than an evaluation deficiency.  I think we are in the situation at QB2/3 recently due to the overall roster being absolutely abhorrent and the QB classes being quite thin. It is harder to justify another Matt Corral(or several) when you can potentially get a real two deep contributor at other positions.  But, it was a lot of hard work to get to the point where are roster is so incredibly bad that luxury picks literally are not in our vocabulary.  This is the reaping what you sow portion of our history.
    • That is what I meant about our front office. They are like someone filling out a March Madness bracket based on preference of uniform colors and mascots. There's no rhyme of reason to some of these fugg'n mind numbing decisions they make.  They go all in on these flimsy-@ss prospects and are gun shy when it comes to more solid prospects.  It's literally maddening and the reason I stopped being so emotionally involved in this team. Heck the only reason I'm active on the board today is one, it's my day off and two, it's cut down time.
