Jim Harbaugh on Cam Newton

Sorry I know we were all wanting another Newton thread

I thought is was a funny quote and I agree with him so figured I would throw it out here:

Jim Harbaugh on Cam Newton: "That's plutonium-grade raw material... I haven’t seen upside like with this guy in probably the last 10 years."

Of course there is some stuff in there for Cam Haters to latch onto as well so should be fun for both sides

A great analagy. You have to wonder if he doesn't want the challenge.

Cam had more college production than any other QB in the draft, and he has much more upside. I guess I can understand why that would scare the hell out of some people, but it doesn't scare me half as bad as the prospect of 2-3 more years of the worst QB play in the league. I seriously doubt it can get any worse than last year, even if they put Cam out there as a rookie and have him run the zone read option for half the damn game.

Defense is great, and I like having a defensive minded coach, but you can't win with the worst offense in the entire league.

Maybe I'm blind and missed it, but do you have a link so we can read the entire article?

Thanks.

SHHHHHHHH...don't say the C word! No one cares how any of these guys handled themselves in college.

I think that's a good characterization of Cam Newton... and if you don't know how to handle plutonium grade raw material it will kill you, but if you can handle it you have a powerful weapon.

sounds good to me but JR is still learning email and texts and mumbling about pie charts...

    • Bryce and Dave will determine how many games this team wins next year. It’s not on the WRs. The RBs. LBs. This is about 2 things: 1. Can Bryce continue to come up big in the few key downs that decide most games?  2. Can Canales evolve his play calling to counter punch like the big boys do. Half time adjustments.  teams that score 30+ points on the regular win more games than not. That’s on Bryce and Dave. The offense is top 10 at every position group, save for TE and QB. A baller TE is gravy but not crucial when the receivers are dudes.  The defense is the defense. It’ll be better this season, hopefully by a large margin, but Dave/Bryce is really where it’s at.
    • Normally I'd wholeheartedly agree with this. But I feel like teams figured out this offense after the Raiders game. Bryce was so inept the first 2 games that we couldn't really even run the offense. Dalton's first game showed what we had. But after that game, coverages got a lot tighter and windows were smaller. When Bryce came back in, his ability to extend plays made a big difference. It's really difficult to stop a QB that can beat/escape 1on1 tacklers. It puts a lot of pressure on the defense when you blitz. And he was completing throws in tight coverage with anticipation. Point being Bryce wasn't throwing to wide open receivers that were schemed open by the offense. Occasionally yes. But not often.
    • With the additions we've made to our roster combined with the state of the division and the conference as a whole there is no excuse for this team not to make a legitimate push for 8-9 wins. Anything less is honestly inexcusable. There will be no more free passes for being a doormat in this iteration of the league where even mediocre teams are competing for playoff spots.
