Butts in the seats factor...

This isn't lost on the business minded owner...

Is there enough excitement to get and keep butts in the seats? I am excited about getting RR. Think a lot of fans are, but what happens if we go with MM and JC and we lose 2-3 games. Are the butts going to be in the seats? People will feel like that same crap (at the same position) we have had over the past few years and save the money watch games at home.

We don't take a QB (or get a FA), we better win. Like Cam or not, he creates excitement. Fans will be waiting to see if MM or JC gets pulled for Cam (a.k.a Peete/Delhomme when down 17 points to make a come back win). That was excitement and people will want to see it. Course he would have to pull off the win or make it a heck of a game, lol.

This isn't a Newton thread (as I said I'm AJ guy). Its QB thread and something that should be considered (because it probably is by ownership).

Winning fixes everything, what about losing under JC and MM???

No doubt Newton would be great for excitement and additionally the potential of becoming our first true franchise QB...Collins was not one.

But people need to realize that these QBs aren't either an instant start or long term project. Phase them in throughout their first year with a vet starting. The Golden Calf of Bristol got minimal action and became used more towards the season's end and honestly looked very good imo for what was expected. This is what we do with Newton and yeah, the excitement he or Green can generate would be an awesome add-on which I'm sure is being considered in some respects.

how many sellouts in a row have we had? i know it's quite a lot.

i don't think selling tickets is a problem...it will become one if we have another season like last year

Sellouts aren't really sellouts. There is a club seat next to me that has NEVER had anyone in it. They have called me nearly every year about buying that PSL. The PSL price is $7500, and they have offered it to me for $1500. No deal.

I am not renewing this year, so that will be 3 seats in a row that will go unsold.

Butts in the seat, spark interest, jersey sales etc

All of the above and imo has the potential to be a LeBron James meaning he could lift a small market team and make them relevant he has that star quality. Just one of the many reasons I am so high on him.

Sellouts are a non-factor in a PSL-based stadium. All but about 3000 tickets are owned by PSL owners, and we have no choice but to purchase season tickets each year or forfeit the seat license.

That being said, being part of a group of about 30 PSL owners who have been tailgating together for over 15 years, here's what's going on in our group. Consolidation of PSLs and game tickets. There are but a few remaining of us who have steadfastly been to all the games, while most of the others have become more selective about which games they attend, me included. This will be the first season I will only be attending a few of the games, while Mrs. ABH will be there for all with her best friend, who also owns a pair of PSLs. But those are going on the market because she cannot attend all the games, either.

The last few years have jaded even the most loyal fans because this team was beyond a description of boring. The team had no real personality and no one player on the team could be relied upon for even a decent newspaper quote, let alone being exciting on the field. Couple that aspect of the team with poor quality, consistent losing and an owner who really put himself out there as an old fuddy-duddy that time has passed by and who would cut a player if his hair was too long. Seriously, other than watching the opposing team, why would anyone have wanted to go to a Panther game last season?

So, yeah, I think the Panthers have a huge uphill challenge to put PSL owners back in their seats rather than have them stand outside the stadium selling their tickets for $10 a pop.

    • Don't take this personal, but anyone who watches pregame or game broadcast on any of the four major networks & can't point out a dozen "experts" that Luke would do a better job than, is just not paying attention. IMO
    • overall agree on the draft grade as a whole on on each pick, but every time I read (and I have read it more than once) that we "gave up two firsts" for Bryce, I am confused. We gave up the 2024 first, but we swapped 2023 firsts, so we didn't give up anything there. We did give up our former first rounder in DJ, but I don't think thats what you mean as one of the "firsts" we gave up.
    • Didn't  see this posted (since 2023) but since folks have been posting that you can't judge a draft class for three years (a ridiculous take), I thought I'd post this to see what people thought about the 2023 draft. Unfortunately this may not be the most interesting class to do this with but I do quite like retrospective draft grades. Would appreciate other's takes on this (and other recent) draft classes.   1(1) - Bryce Young QB: I am a bigger Bryce Young apologist than most (maybe all). I like the kid. But there is no way around it: This was a terrible pick. If he had been picked in the 4th or even the 3rd round I would feel pretty good about it. But this was the first overall pick that we gave up two firsts, our best offensive player to get.  GRADE: C -    2(39) - Jonathan Mingo WR: not much to say here here. He was here for two years. His yards per catch are on par with Bryce's yards per pass. Rough stuff. To date he has still never scored a touchdown in the NFL GRADE: F   3(80) - DJ Johnson OLB: a pick I hated as soon as it happened and an example of why the premise of this thread is honestly dumb. This was a bad pick when it happened. Most people knew it.  Then came training camp and he did not look good. Then came the preseason which confirmed what we saw in TC. Then came the season which confirmed what we saw in preseason. To date, he has half a sack in his career. GRADE: F 4 (114) Chandlers Zavala G: Honestly the best pick of this draft which really speaks to how awful this draft is. Other than Bryce, the only pick still on the team. He is mostly average or below average depth which in round 4 is not terrible. But he had a pff score of 43.5 and though I think people have unrealistic expectations for draft picks, I still would want a little more from a fourth round pick GRADE: C+   5 (145) - Jammie Robinson S: I liked the pick when it happened but ended up being a disappointment. He logged 1 tackle with the falcons last year and not enough snaps to get a grade on PFF.  GRADE: F OVERALL DRAFT GRADE: F
