Fans run the ship for a week: Clausen

I'd keep him where he is, he is a second round qb, not a god damned messiah. I just don't understand how you can cut a top 10 talent that you got cheap in the second round, he sucked his rookie year with one of the worst o-lines in the nfl (that year at least), let him develop more instead of just cutting him

All of you Clausen haters will be eating your words when I bump this thread in December. Clausen will be good but we just have to wait until he develops and you'll all jump on his bandwagon.

Jimmy! Wassup!

See you got some of your family on here also. Lookin' forward to a big 2011!

NOTHING pissed me off more than play calling last year.

I can only put it politely: I fully disagree with anyone who doesn't consider the coaching staff a big part of our failure last year.

Watching Moore and Clausen, I really can't figure out whether our coaching staff didn't want to help them or were entirely too incompetent to do so. That has more to do with Clausen. Moore just reminded me of how stubborn our coaches were (or unimaginative they were)..

what is very hard for anyone to dispute is how incompetent our coaching staff was last year.

It amazes me that so many think it was all Clausen. While I am a huge supporter of drafting Newton. I will not jump on the Blame it On Clausen bandwagon. I think he was in a no-win situation and Fox knew when the season was over some team was going to ****** him up regardless of how good or bad the Panthers did.

Takes homer glasses off:

I don't know what else the coaches were supposed to do tbh. Give checkdown/screen options to slow down the pass rush?check. Run a lot of post and slants to keep LB's from playing so shallow.check. I even saw for the first time ever the John Fox Carolina Panthers call a pass play on first down and third and short. I saw all that stuff, the "TEAM" just wasn't executing on a consistent basis. The right side of our line was a sieve and couldn't run block to save their new born toddlers life. Our left side was being overloaded or just out played. We couldn't run the ball anywhere near the levels of the last few years especially early in the year.

Near the middle/end of the season when the O line wasn't horrible Clausen held the ball too long. If a defensive player so much as slap his thigh pad with his hands Clausen was going down. His 5 yard scrambles on 3rd and 10 were inspirational. His deep ball was a joke. When he did make a good pass, it was dropped because the recievers were shocked he actually made a good pass. Our number 1 receiver was throwing tantrums like my 3 year old. Arugurably our best RB was injured a large portion of the year and our other RB played like something was wrong with him the first 5 games. A guy sitting on his couch on Monday, came and played in our offense and there was no noticeable drop off. I think our TE's played most of the year in the witness protection program. The only thing that kept us from being blown out was our Defense played well. Blame coaches all you want but our team sucked ass. The only people who played with heart was the defense. That was because Jon Beason would have whupped their asses if they didn't.

so Fox calls a pass play on 1st and 3rd so we are to believe if Clausen still sucked, well, Fox(include Davidson as well) did everything they could?

I don't think this is really all that accurate.. perhaps these plays were called every once in a while, but naturally, at some point they will.. devising a plan of short passing routes and screens are effective to get your QB on a roll. but if you are just tossing them in randomly, well, I'm not buying that as effective playcalling.

I saw a few screens throughout the season, but in no way will 3-6 screens throughout the season hold up as a valid point that Fox did all he could.. lol

rookies have played for Fox - had success.

young QBs Fox didn't like have started with Davidson's lame play calling - had success

Bottom line, there is no excuse for how horrific Clausen was.......the talent around the QB position was decent and good enough to win. and again, Matt Moore having 3-4 bad quarters isn't this unquestionable evidence that Clausen was doomed.......that is a joke imo.

I was in shock when we took clausen because I wanted nothing to do with that emu faced d-bag. I have no faith that he will amount to anything in the league (I had more faith before the draft but then he actually played) and if i were in charge, I would trade his ass in a heart beat for whatever I can get for him.

After what he showed last year, I don't understand how we could benefit from him being on the roster. What does he bring to the table? he's certainly not a viable backup. he isn't a game manager. half his throws are tipped at the line. he throws funny. he's indecisive. he's gun shy. he's not a leader.

I didn't want him before the draft and i don't want him now. ship him off to someone who wants a hopeless project to work on.

He also didn't win in college. He beat up scrub teams....just like in high school. Winners generally find ways to get it done at all levels.....
