If Clausen and Weis had stayed another year in ND.

Wouldn't we be SUPER FukeD? At least we only have a mid of the pack second rounder invested into him, imagine if it was the first pick in the draft! Discuss how fortunate we are, I think Clausen will pan out one day, but could you imagine if he was in the running this year and being a Senior, pro style, imagining he would have put up good numbers.

I'm just glad no one let hurney back in the 1st round last year to grab him. We could be sitting here without a 1 or a 2. Yikes!

I kind of doubt that, had he been able to trade up for Clausen, he still would have traded up for A Money.

But yeah, thank God he couldn't find a willing trading partner for that deal.

So if Luck comes out and has a bad rookie year will everyone start saying he is worthless as well? Clausen's year in review:

1) offensive line that all of a sudden forgot how to block

2) WR's that were learning how to run routes

3) Vet WR mouthing off to QB on and off the field

4) O coordinator that considers a screen a downfield risky play

5) same fans that were calling for him to start the season writing him off after 4 games

6) Lastly, learning a completely new offense and adjusting to the speed of the NFL

Yes he stunk last year but writing any player off after one year is crazy. Do I think we should mortgage our future on Clausen - No, but you can't scapegoat him for last year. Tom Brady would not have done much better.

I was saying we traded our 2nd for Edwards so more than likely we would have had to give up a first to get back into the first round.

Hey bud, im not saying Clausen won't ever pan out, I'm just saying, it would be a terrible situation had stars aligned and we used the number one pick on him this year. He is obviously not a Sam Bradford type franchise player, but he might be a Jake Delhomme or a Tony Romo in a few years.

just an fyi, the reason he didn't trade up in the first or in the second to get Clausen was because he REFUSED to trade our #1 this year.

I think we'd likely have taken Golden Tate at the 48 spot last year if Clausen had stayed in school. We'd also likely have signed a vet as insurance (maybe McCown).

Looking at how Tate did in his first year vs Brandon LaFell, I'd say that at least for the moment, it looks like we got the better of that deal (time will tell). I would say though that I'd much rather have had a vet backup last year rather than a rookie.

    • I’m old enough to remember when I wanted to draft Njoku We brought back Mitchell and officially kept Tremble. Mitchell Evans isn’t going anywhere. Sanders who knows, he was awful last year I fully agree we need a better TE. This room is awful Njoku would be a massive help in the red zone. However it really seems like Dan and the FO prefer to go young on offense
    • You’re underselling Loveland imo. He’s so damn good. You can line him out wide and count on him to win 1 v 1. I don’t see that from Sadiq. Loveland is going to go over 1000 yards next season I’m not overly asking for a WR3. It’s just one of the few directions Morgan could go in round 1.  Let’s say Thieneman, Fano and Cooper are all on the board it’s a tough decision. I just don’t see how this team would take Sadiq over some of those guys given the way they run their offense. Our tight end room is easily bottom of the league so I can definitely see why someone would want a tight end though. At one point during the season I was on the Sadiq train as well. I just don’t think value wise for us specifically it makes sense given our team as a whole As far as tight ends go in this draft I really like Max Klare. Very smooth mover
    • Some of you need some serious help with the way 9 lives rent free in your heads I know for a fact, Dan loves Bryce. Bryce is his guy. This offense is very young and they’re asking Bryce to do a lot. With Idzik taking over playcalling duties it’s a move that is another step in the process of Bryce taking control of the offense. 24 years old. This youth movement on offense and putting more on 9’s shoulders is going to pay off in the long run
