Shake up at the top of the draft?

Hurney has brought up a trade when asked about the QB. Bet we don't get an offer. The fact that he is trying to trade tells me that he isn't sold on Newton--if this is true.

On WFNZ, I don't know who was on, but I heard a guy say he knows Chud very well and he can be stubborn. He said that if we draft Newton, it isn't because Chud had any say so. Chud would not want Newton.

Not good news :(

If nobody else that wants him takes the prospect of our drafting him seriously, they're not gonna make any trade offers.

(at least not to us)

But it means that we are not sold on Newton and it is lying time. With Judge Judy's ruling today, we probably would not get an offer anyway

Anybody seen Verge?

I'm not big on taking anonymous radio callers seriously. Granted it could be true, I just don't like that as a source.

I bet he would.....but I think Hurney deserves this pick. Hurney is starting to put some years in here and his job in recent history deserves a fair amount of critcism. This is pretty much a hit or miss selection for him and that could determine his fate here.......

This is why I think we take Dareus. Both our owner and our fanbase have proven repeatedly that we are happy with mediocrity. Hurney knows that 8-8 for the next decade keeps his job. There is very little incentive for him to take a chance on a boom bust QB that could make us a real contender year in and year out. A QB bust would likely get him fired. Dareus getting 4-6 sacks for the next decade while we dwell in the cellar of the NFC south is a win in the minds of our fans.

Stupidest thing I've read all day. Regardless of weather we Cam or not, we will probably be in the cellar next year... and the crop of talent coming out next year is better than this year. It makes sense to grab the best DT this year and get a QB next year.

Cam can't even call 1 play from the auburn play book... 1!!!

it's always better next year..you are counting on all the juniors declaring though.

Heard this too...not sure who it was either. It was around 3-4ish.

Interesting things in the article. If we are desperate to trade down, then why did Hurney say we have had no calls and he isn't blowing up the phone? If it is common knowledge we want to trade down then the smoke screen is blown and Hurney needs to find some trade partners quickly. Seems to me he could act nonchalant but that only works when you are actually fooling people. Seems by this article, everyone knows we want to trade down desperately.

I wonder if the lockout ending so soon and players getting back to work sooner or later will make Newton a better pick or less attractive. Seems to me if we had a whole season to work with him the chances of turning him into something this year or next would actually go up.

I was convinced a while back that they're going to take him. All signs are leading towards Cam. Yes, they've worked out other guys but all you hear about is Cam. Either it's the greatest smoke screen of all time (which isn't working) or they really do love Cam.

Or...that they are intigued by Cam's physical tools and are trying to get past the MANY question marks and red flags that he has.

Think about this...there have been few times where the player that we picked was actually the guy that we were talking to the most leading up to the draft.

I thought the article was spot on. There are reasons why he might or might not be the pick....but no one knows at this point.

Its about time all this Cam Newton love affair stuff

comes to an end and cooler minds prevail. Man, think

about it. He is far from the best choice we can make

He isn't even the best QB available.

We need Dareus we do not need Newton.

    • lol, that second part is quite literally one of the dumbest things ever. Having or not having guaranteed contracts has absolutely nothing to do with how much these billionaires have to pay.  Because there is a hard cap and a minimum cap spend requirement, and teams either use their cap or roll it over to use it all the next year, so the owners have to pay the same amount of money in the end no matter what. Having fully guaranteed contracts in the NFL would only hurt salary cap management, and thus would end up screwing over the team and its fan base when teams kiss on signings as they take up cap room that is needed to improve the roster. Look at the Browns with Watson, they gave him the fully guaranteed deal and all it’s doing is sucking up massive cap space now.  If they hadn’t done that, the owner would still be paying the same amount of money each year as that cap space would still be used elsewhere. If you want to argue for fully guaranteed contracts because the players deserve it, that’s an entirely different argument and a fair one to discuss.  But anyone against fully guaranteed deals isn’t doing it to argue for the billionaire owners.

    • Ryabkin could be the steal of the draft, he was a Top 10 pick heading into last season and had a rough year.  Lots of GMs passed on him because of that and his workouts. Pick has really high upside and Svech should be able to translate Rod tearing his arse a new one for making dumb plays since Svech has had several years of it.  🤣😂
