Panthers FO to hold press conference on Draft live tomorrow at Noon

I caught that too.

How ironic to think we are transitioning to the Notre Dame Box by getting rid of a Notre Dame QB. ;)

But he did say legs and when is that ever a top characteristic of a QB. However, he could be of the opinion Newton should be the pick or part of the Cam promotion--I still think they want to trade. If they do, they are divided on Cam Newton.

There was another slip. Rivera was talking about varios ways they can meet needs and he said, "the draft, trade, free agency...there are many ways in which we could PICK our (QB). Was that a slip? I might have taken him out of context, but you don't PICK trades and free agents. Maybe nothing.

That comment does not rule out Gabbert, or even Kaepernick. We are all thinking first round, but these guys think all 7.

What do you mean you don't "pick" your trades and FA contracts? You have lost me here.

I heard that slip as well and thought hmmmm...

But like you said it could be nothing. I can honestly say that I have no fugging clue who we are going to pick Thursday.

At this point I wouldn't be shocked if it were PP, Dareus, Cam, Green, Gabbert, Miller, or if we trade out. I think it will be Cam if we stay at #1 from reading the tea leaves, but since I want to take Cam it could very easily be a case of me listening for what I want to hear. :confused5:

ROTOWORLD via Observer: Coach Ron Rivera listed wide receiver as a top draft need Tuesday, which the Charlotte Observer interprets as "a pretty good clue as to the Panthers' thoughts on Steve Smith's future."

The Panthers would seem to be fine at the position with Smith and the three players drafted last year, so Rivera's statement is telling. It's not clear whether Smith has reiterated his desire to be traded in recent months, but he has "given every indication he is ready to move on." Depending on Judge Nelson's actions Wednesday, trading season could be open in by the end of the week.

Throw Green and even Jones on the pile. TeeRay, if we take Cam I can tell you that no other QB has been more scrutinized and checked out than Newton. I will support him and look forward to the show.

If he busts, it should cost Hurney his job.

Just the wording more than anything-trying to find a nugget in the mud. You would say "sign" a free agent or "trade for" a player, not we would "pick" a free agent or a player in a trade. Minor detail, but that is all we had. I do beleive that people who know what they want to do and are subject to responding to questions about them will eventually tip their hands in the process of word selection. We subconsciously associate certain words with certain things. When he said "pick", I immediately attributed it to the draft, therefore eliminating the other two methods of acquiring players.

If you want to always have one to wear do what I did which was get a retro jersey of Mills. You can wear that one no matter what happens to the team.

Good call. I'll have to get one of those. I was leaning towards getting a custom Minter or Rucker jersey too, that way I always got something to wear with no worries.

If only I could find somebody selling cheap, high-quality jerseys...:D

here is the exact quote that me and MHS heard that sounded funny to the ear.

"What we want to do offensively, we most certainly do have to find a quarterback that is going to lead this team, whether that quarterback is on this roster through free agency or trade or in the draft," Rivera said. "We have to make sure it's a sound pick and we have to be reasonable with the amount of time we expect the impact."

"This has turned into a passing league, which also adds to the importance of quality pass rushers and quality cover guys," Rivera said. "You can't overlook that. That also impacts what we're going to do."

...meaning.... We're drafting Dareus or Petersen.

...meaning... We're giving Clausen more time to prove himself. (especially in our system)

    • I'd rather get a vet to fill XL's spot for a chain mover and give Jimmy Horn more reps since he's basically our Ted Ginn speed guy. T-Mac and Coker are locked in as the top 2. They honestly fuged up giving XL the start over Moore in the playoff game
    • I have been looking for a dropped pass list and all that comes up is QBs. And team stats. When I do receivers I get the passing stats for a handful that threw passes this year.    I wanted to be accurate but anyhow I was looking because thought I remembered reading where T Mac had more drops than XL this year.  One of you many smarter than me people here,I would appreciate it if you know how to pull that up, please do. Thank you.    And yeah I know that isn’t all there is to it I just thought it was interesting.  Of course what the hell is a drop lol.
    • I agree with this and I think it's worth mentioning too that Bryce is not consistent on his placement and especially velocity and that in large part is driven by his footwork. We all know XL doesn't have the best hands and I don't know that he can overcome that. Cam always had the heater that just hit your hands and sank into your grip, where Bryce has some that are harder thrown, some soft. Bryce stepping into a pass looks so much different than that hop throw thing he does. I think XL really needs to hit the jugs machine and start learning how to catch all these different touch passes. TMac and Coker don't have these issues. If XL doesn't get some work in he's going to be out of the league in the next couple of years.
