Predict out 2010 record with Newton as QB

Alright play along for my next question. Now erase 2010 from your memory and let's assume Clausen is coming out this year in the 2011 draft and we have the #1 pick. How would Clausen be rated v. the other qb's in the draft?

Cam would win a couple of games just off his will to win IMO.

However, I don't see Cam setting the world on fire next year. If he even plays he will struggle, much the same way that most rookie QBs struggle. Drafting him wouldn't be about next year, it would be about the long term success of the franchise.

I agree 100%. No one has answered my question - why are we treating Clausen different? I am not saying he is our future, but I am saying you can't say he is NOT our future after one season.

Why is it not fair? 90% of Panther fans are ready to throw Clausen to the wolves and he did not know any of the personnel, the offense, he is outside his well-oiled machine, and lastly he transitioned to the NFL.

The problem for many folks is that they see Clausen's upside as severely limited while Newton's is much higher. The issue isn't how they would have played in 2010 but how they will play in 2011 or in five years.

Then why draft cam if he won't improve the team now, and is gonna take 2-3 years to make this team a contender, WHEN we drafted clausen last season to do the same thing that cam will be asked to do.

Yea clausen was suppose to be the most pro ready QB in last years draft class, but he didn't get the oppurtunity to sit and adjust to the pro game, god forbid cam is thrown to the wolves his rookie season and we're stuck in the same situation we're in now bitching about drafting another QB 1st overall 2 years straight.

For the question about erasing 2010 out of our minds, and jimmy being in this years draft class...After Luck decided to go back to college clausen as a QB prospect (not athlete) would be the clear cut no. 1 QB in this draft and we would be drafting him over newton or blaine anyways.

So be happy we aren't paying him no. 1 pick $ and give him another chance, seems like the cam huggers are gonna be happy playing QB carousel year end and year out. Because cam isn't gonna produce worth a damn if he's stuck in the same situation matt and jimmy dealt with in 2010. Yea he's athletic and can scramble, but if double trouble couldnt evade defenders what makes you think a bigger slower target could. WE HAD NO PASSING ATTACK,,,CAM CANT BLAZE PAST 10 IN THE BOX...

Same reason the Bucs drafted Freeman.....rookie year is a time to learn and grow. Gotta give them that. This team is built to be a contender w/ average QB play......it doesn't require Peyton Manning/Aaron Rodgers type play to reach contending status.

    • This play was never designed to go to either DJ or Odunze. The primary read is Burden who is stymied early, with the outlet being Kmet if Caleb doesn't like the option for Burden. Given the situation it's pretty obvious the simple play is to take the free yards with Kmet, or if you want to be aggressive just wait a beat longer for Burden to uncover on his double move. If Moore was ever going to be a viable target in this play then Caleb should have started out reading Odunze to hold the safety in the middle and then coming to Moore, but because he started the snap staring down the right and then came back to the middle late it made it where the safety's leverage remained to the outside of Moore, so he would never have imagined that pass actually being thrown to him in that situation. Realistically DJ's best option in that context is to just occupy the safety to leave a hole open for Caleb to get it to Burden, which is probably why he throttles down vs carrying the safety across.
    • Even with Sonny Styles still on the board I thought it's a no brainer to address the Oline after Icky's injury.  And how can you pass up Fano at 19 given our situation. Then the rest of the draft just kind of made sense with maybe the exception of Klubnik.  But if Canales can fix him and Young goes down. . .I think it's a solid pick. What do you think of this draft?
    • When we didn't trade him to the Rams or the Bears (I believe the Bears said they would take one of Brown/ Burns/DJ Moore) we should have just signed him and kept him.  We should have traded him to the Rams obviously and we should have kept DJ and traded Burns.  We made all three wrong choices with Burns lol.
