Once we draft Cam, this fanbase will support him right?

Awesomeness!!

Time will tell if I had to guess I'd say it's going to be split between believers that see his potential, non-believers that will support him just because he's our guy/hope for the best and guys hoping he will fail just so that they can avoid being wrong about Cam.

Everyone knows that I am one of the many that does not think Cam will be a great QB and that he is not worth the pick.

However, if he is drafted I will support him just like every other member of this team.

And I would NEVER wish for failure of a player on my team just to say :I told you so". If Cam is picked and he fails....the Panthers fail.

Every one will support him as long as he produces his first year. 1 year is apparently as long as Charlotte fans are willing to give a player an opportunity to prove himself. This is why I hate 85% of our fans.

Steve Smith has a down season - let's trade him. Deangelo doesn't finish last year - let's trade him because Goodson had a couple good games. Moore gets off to a slow start - bench his azz. Edwards doesn't play his first year - fans claim the worst pick in Panther history. Jenkins get hurt - get his azz out of Charlotte. Moose has a down year - he is old and slow, get rid of him. Casay misses a field goal - he is old too, why don't we let Loyd kick field goals? I could go on forever....our fans amaze me!

Begrudgingly I will support Cam if he is the pick. I have little faith in his ability to be a successful NFL qb much less a franchise guy. Aside from his athleticism he has no experience undercenter nor any history with play calling or offensive sets that would prepare him for the NFL. That being said I stand with the ship as it sinks. Go Panthers!

Most fans will support him, the "draft process" is over, he's family now.

This.

But like any QB we've ever had, I think there will be some dissenters in the ranks. We wouldn't be the Panther's fanbase if there wasn't some DA saying "That QB can't play!"

My expectation is that they will either come around, or be ignored, after Newton dominates his first game.

On the flip side, in the unlikely event Cam busts, we will have a war among the fanbase.

You honestly think he will play this year...?

I will support him even though I think its the wrong choice. I will just hope to hell I am wrong. The biggest thing that worries me is from this article

http://espn.go.com/blog/nfcsouth/pos...for-cam-newton

2. In some ways, he's not Freeman, Matt Ryan, Sam Bradford or Joe Flacco. Those young quarterbacks all have had early success.

"I sat down with Ryan, Flacco, Freeman and Bradford," one talent evaluator said. "Those are four of the smartest quarterbacks I've ever interviewed coming out of college. You could cue up the film to a certain play, and they'd walk you right through every step of it for the entire offense. I saw Cam's interview with Jon Gruden, and the look on Cam's face when Jon asked him to walk him through a play scared the absolute heck out of me."

The concerns go beyond Newton learning a complicated NFL playbook. Talent evaluators say they're not sure whether Newton can handle pre-snap reads because he didn't have to do that in college and they have no idea how he'll read and react once he takes the snap.

You need to have a smart QB. And this is not the first article that mentions Cam's lack of even the basic knowledge of play design.

Hate to say it, but I think about 97% of black Panthers fans are gonna support him even if he stinks it up to start and doesn't pan out. Obviously, I don't know every Panther fan personally but from who I've talked to, I think only me, Chris Harris, and evidently Steve Smith, are the only three black people in the area who aren't 100% certain he's gonna be good and a slam dunk draft pick. LOL I mean, I hope he's good, but damn.

I will not support the pick, but I will support the player.

Hated the AE trade, the Brown trade, the Stew pickup, and will probably hate the Cam selection, but I support them all.

Who did you want instead of Stewart? I think hes been an awesome pick up for us.

Making generalizations are generally a horrible idea. Whether I disagree or not, still.

I don't know I will be skeptical of him. But if he can help the team win then we're all good. I see all the physical talent he has but potential of the QB position does not rely on the arm strength or the mobility of a player. It's all about the X's and O's and in between in the ears.

    • Baker was traded before he played his 5th year.  RGIII was cut before playing his 5th year. So it is rare but it happens.
    • Time to hit 4000 yards and 30 TDs (including rushing). I don't care about INTs anymore. That's a big part of the problem. He plays uber conservative until the game is on the line. Playing not to lose, instead of playing to win. Time to let it friggin rip from the get. The team can win with a pick or 2 if he has 3-4 TDs. Stop playing scared.  But to be fair, his WRs have not been great. You all can bash about 1st round picks and O-line cap all you want.  Chuba as your #1 RB his entire career.  Adam Thielen as your best WR for 2 of 3 seasons is ridiculous. Then a rookie as your best in the 3rd season. Legette is not a 1st round talent. Probably closer to a 4th if you compare him to Brazzel this year. Coker has been a walking injury report. Nothing else to really speak of at WR or TE. Jimmy Horn has potential, but he is not an NFL starter yet. Oline has been better as run blockers than pass blockers. Ickey has always been so-so as a pass blocking LT. Center has been a revolving door for 3 years. Damien Lewis has been as marketed. Hunt is a great run blocker but an ok pass blocker - when healthy. Moton has been solid at RT. Biggest problem with the oline has been depth. When someone went down, their replacement became a glaring weakness. Overall a good but not great unit the last 2 years. 2023 was a ish show. Nothing else to say.  Not one game breaker, take it to the house offensive weapon since DJ Moore. Hopefully we get a little of that from Brazzell.  Either way, in his 4th season, it doesn't matter. You have to be able to overcome whatever comes your way. First 3 seasons with a young supporting cast is defendable. Can't use that anymore though. 3rd year in the offense. 3rd year with the same HC.
    • Highest amount of OL salary cap in the league too. The Chiefs are behind us at 2 but we are ahead of them by a cool $23 million. https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/position/offensive-line/_/year/2026/table/active/sort/cap_total
