What should Newton's role be?

I want him to sit and learn. But that's what we wanted for Jimmy and look how that ended up. The only players that get to sit for 2-3 years are players who have a veteran in front of them that can win more than 2 games a season.

IF we got a Vet like Garrard (Doubtful) Mcnabb...maybe even a Favre I wouldn't mind, but if we're going into the season with Clausen and Moore, I would let them fight for the job in camp, and start whoever wins, which would be Cam.

the only way i'm ok with him starting from day one is if we inflate the offensive line and get the running game dominant like it was in 08 and 09.

i do think preseason games are going to be more important than ever in gauging how far he's come and how ready he is to face game opponents.

    • No one way to do it, it does appear that with the bigger draft picks of the last 5 years…..majority haven’t steered clear of young QBs on the roster being their hopeful guy. Especially past their rookie seasons but even some the biggest ones have had it early.   As far as Andy Dalton, the two young guys he has “mentored”…..have had very rough NFL starts.  Which really ask the why the heck is Dalton here.   He doesn’t really check any box.  No young potential.  Can’t step in and win.  And his mentor track record with Fields and now Bryce is bad
    • I had thought the Panthers might let him play out his contract this year and hope he stays healthy. If not draft a left tackle and move Ekwonu to right tackle.
    • Frankly, if most teams in the NFL lose their starting QB for a significant amount of time, they're screwed. The fantasy is that one has a future Tony Romo or a Nick Foles that can carry a stacked team. The reality is that you might get roughly 3~5 games out of your backup before it all falls apart. Remember all of Peyton Manning's backups? Utterly terrible. Speaking of backup QB's, Raiders may need one. https://www.nfl.com/news/raiders-qb-aidan-o-connell-suffered-fractured-wrist-in-preseason-finale-expected-to-be-out-6-8-weeks
