Clausen isn't 'real' competition for Newton

I believe that there is plenty of competition already there. If Cam wants to succeed he needs to play against himself, not competition and any acquisitions that he could possibly perceive as a lack of confidence a.k.a. stopgap could sidetrack him or at the very least cause him to press himself to a degree that may be detrimental.

New staff, good core of players, strong backfield and O-line (c'mon Otah)...

this should be enough to give him the support and opportunity to show us what he can do.

That's would be my conventional wisdom....but it only matters if you are developing a rookie with a chance to be decent. IMO Cam is no such rookie.

Someone like Moore might also be in the mix. It might not be Moore himself but someone similar to him, still pretty young with some games but not very many.

It doesn't have to be an old ass vet to give him competition and it doesn't have to be Clausen.

I think our starter will be somewhere in between.
