NFL to close up shop?

Recommended Posts

The owners shouldn't have to open up their books. Close up shop. It's their league. Allz I'm saying if there was really financial troubles like they say I don't think they would hesitate to show the world.

Why would the NBA more than happily open up their books? They are actually in trouble.

I've counted at least a half dozen people just in this thread who are completely unaware that the players were first locked out by the owners.

They were not. The union decertified at 5:00pm on a Friday, then the owners locked the union out at mid-night of that night.

it would seem like that if you were going broke. Sure show the world you have $12.38 in your account and hold out your hand

but when the numbers have lots more zeros the public does not give its support in spite of what the losses show.

All the mob sees are the zeros. I would not open them up for the world to see. That would be stupid.

I am lol'ing at all the people who keep saying that owners should open their books.

The NFL was willing to open their books for the last five years and even let a third party (Of the union's choice IIRC) to view the books but yet the the union still de-certified.

The players and D.Smith can go and kick rocks.

Not really, so you should probably stop lol'ing as you are incorrect.

The league has been willing to open up the books showing their expenses. They are unwilling to show the revenue side. Without both, its worthless.

IMO I doubt that the NFL is losing that much money, and the books would probably prove that however, I am betting they are looking at the future and the currrent trends in the economy.

These guys didn't get to be wealthy by accident.

the owners opted out of the cba years ago, so yeah they did lock out the players. whatever the info they presented to NFLPA was not what they were looking for so they decertified.

Semantics. The only reason the players decertified is because the owners were preparing to lock them out. If anything, the players would show up today under the same rules they've played under since the last CBA, and I don't blame them for not being particularly excited about playing more games for less money.

Nope, I am still lol'ing. You lose.

Will you release any more financial documents?

There is no point to releasing them to people who don’t want to negotiate with you. We did offer to release five years of individual club-by-club financial documents to a mutually acceptable third party to review, analyze and report on those documents. We also offered to give the union aggregate profit data for the 32 clubs as a whole so they could see how the profitability has changed over the years. We offered substantial financial disclosures and the union chose not to take it.

Is the five years of audited financials a new offer?

It was something we had offered them some time ago. It was not something we just offered today.

When De Smith said we want 10 years of audited financials from each club, what was the reaction?

We were upstairs discussing the various points that they had made. Unbeknownst to us at the time they made those points they had already claimed to renounce their bargaining status, so I don’t know precisely why we were meeting with them. We were upstairs discussing it, we were talking to members of our ownership and within the committee and then we saw on one of the television stations that they had announced they had decertified and filed a lawsuit, etc. So it sort of muted the discussion.

They decertify as a ploy then get locked out.

So what?

And I can count just as much who are completely unaware that the Union walked away from the Negotiation Table.
