I might be crucified for having Cam with more interceptions then touchdowns but if Cam came out of his rookie year with something like 17TDs and 20INTs I would be HIGHLY pleased. Interceptions are gonna happen for a rookie but as long as he still shows signs of progress I think we'll have a keeper.

There are way too many variables in the way to make any real predictions.

Among those variables are:

  • Whether or not they bring a veteran QB of one variety or another.

  • When he starts in 2011, if he does at all.

  • Health of the offensive line and other supporting cast members (Jeremy Shockey, for instance, could make a huge difference for good or ill).

  • Whether Steve Smith is traded AND whether the Panthers explore other WR's in FA or trades.

  • Development of existing young WR's (including A. Edwards).

  • Coaching, playbook modifications and play calling.

If we're honest, there are just too many question marks to make well thought out predictions about any aspect of the Panthers 2011 season, especially the rookie season potential of Cam Newton.

If the lockout gets lifted in early June, we might be able to seriously talk about this kind of thing in August, but even that seems like a stretch to me.

And if the lockout continues into July or August, we're talking about things being completely up in the air for a team like the Panthers throughout the season considering we have so many young players and a new coaching staff.
