instead of a NFLPA/NFL joint, it's just the NFLPA hosting it.

The NFLPA will host and finance the symposium in Washington DC in June 28-29. The original NFL-NFLPA joint event was scheduled for June 26 in Canton.

The symposium is designed to help the rookies' transition as they enter the NFL, teaching the players life skill such as money management. The symposium will be called "The Business of Football: Rookie Edition."

"It was important for us to do this because it's a critical time in the lives of players who are about to enter the league," NFLPA spokesman George Atallah told Trotter. "Lockout issues aside, it's important that players are prepared for this next phase in their lives and careers."

Given the probable income stream and the limited availability of hotel rooms during the summer, it will most likely take place in a Best Western in or near Little Rock AR.

- Free continental breakfast included along with pinwheel sandwiches and banana pudding lunch thrown in.

- Still Pending drink coupons with the Applebees and carpool message board

Free Ice and Wireless Internet Access.

So the agents and their attorneys believe they can control the game and protect the bumps they get when a kid inks a contract. They have to have a way to protect the illegal investments they make in the kid by corrupting him throughout his college career. They do this by insuring they get all their propaganda installed early guaranteeing them a huge payday for rookie contracts.

A real agent takes care of his own guy, educates his own guy, shields him from what might be out there amongst other rookies and works with him throughout his career pushing him toward bonuses so he can make his money over time.

These slimeballs now are just wooing kids with illegal crap while they are in school so they can get that big cut. Today's practices are not at all in the best interest of the game or its up and coming stars.

THIS is the biggest reason the owners are making a stand and exactly why I support them. These rookie contracts MUST be limited and the agent-disguised pimps must be taken down a notch or two by committing them to their clients long term and not just when they sign their rookie contracts.

The agent cabals that "handle" their clients nowadays do not provide what a true agent is needed for and the way the contracts are being paid now facilitates them and not the sport; thereby diminishing the character and overall appeal of the NFL as a financially viable entity in which clients will continue to clamor and fight over ticket and event rites. Demand is likely leveling out for the first time in decades and this is legitimate cause for concern amongst owners and league officials.

The players want to open the books when in reality the books show the past. They may show a trend where profits are dropping but the "number" is still very big and the owners are wise to hide that from the public.

Guaranteed contracts for unproven players should not be the norm. Today it is and it has changed everything from the agents behind the scenes to the constant rule changes that are diminishing the aggressiveness of the sport. How someone cannot see this is beyond me.

Agree 100% sharkkiller. How the hell can the NFLPA sponsor anything when they aren't even a group anymore?

The NFLPA is still an active group. They are a trade organization rather than a union....even though I think the whole decertification is crap.
