Thomas Davis Interview On Mac Attack (audio)

Recap--

How's the knee: Held up just fine, did everything that everyone else did linebacker wise at the workouts.

On not being under contract: Not attending workouts never crossed his mind. Helped bring in other guys to the workouts. Thinks he'll be a Panther and even if he's not, didn't want to miss the opportunity to compete with those guys.

On players having a copy of the playbook and maybe not being re-signed: Coaches did a good job of giving playbooks to guys they thought were a lock to be on the team, and didn't give full playbooks to some of the free-agent guys that might not be back. Players in that situation understand why it happened.

TD says it's been "way too long" since he's hit someone.

More on knee: Good to go, maybe just as strong as when he got hurt the first time. Has been running full out for a while. Speed is all the way back, definitely happy about that.

On Cam Newton: Wanted to be able to make his own judgments on Cam, thinks Cam is a tremendous competitor. WAs in great shape and TD thinks he'll do "a great job at leading this team this year." TD also thinks Cam will get the starting job and if he continues to progress, he'll be "a great addition" to the team. Says Cam is a true competitor and wants to win and wants to do all the right things to win. Not as convinced as he once was that Cam won't be able to run over players in the NFL.

Bring back Jake?: Thinks Jake would do a great job mentoring, listen to Colt McCoy talk about Jake in Cleveland. Thinks Jake can come back in and be a great leader for the young QBs.

On media lockout: Very necessary. Wanted to get everyone together and focus on what they had to learn. Tons of material that's new to everyone; it was a learning process and they didn't want to have any distractions

On Steve Smith: Don't read anything into Smith being at the workouts. TD has told Smith he wants him back next year. Nobody knows what's going to happen. Steve has to make the best decision for him and his family, and the Panthers have to make the best decision for the organization.

On lockout info: They don't have any more information than what the media gives because everything is supposed to be done in secrecy.

On NBA Finals: Miami Heat fan first, Bobcats fan 2nd. Admits LeBron choked in 4th quarters. Says LeBron to MJ was never a comparison.

That's basically it. Nothing ground breaking, and mostly nothing that we haven't heard before. Just nice to constantly be reminded how many great people and stand up guys we have representing our organization. TD is another class act and I'm glad he's a Panther.

I not only like that Thomas is a Newton convert, but also the way he talks about how he was won over. Doing all the right things, taking the steps necessary to supplement his incredible physical gifts, and exhibiting a tremendous work ethic and a desire to get better.

Glad to hear his knee is healthy. TD is a stand up guy amongst many stand up guys on our team. The praise that :cam: has been receiving recently from a handful of players negates every bad thing that was said about him from every analyst and the media leading up to the draft. I'm confident this kid is going to be special.

damn, I hope he lays fools out this year.. all that built up frustration should be fun to watch..

good to know the questions about his speed have been answered.

    • We won 5 with the worst defense in the history of defenses.  I think free agency and our draft puts us over 6.5.
    • Leaning towards just ordering this tonight, but now I have no idea on size. Has anyone bought a bunch of jerseys in the last few years and can convey how the Game vs Limited vs Reebok versions all fit? These are both Mediums... The white one here is a Reebok one from 2010, and was when they had the "+2 length" on the tag and it was the version with the stitched numbers instead of iron on... the blue one is from 2022 and is the F.U.S.E Limited version also with stitched stuff, not the "game jersey" with the ironed on numbers/letters that they have the T-Mac jerseys in. The old one fits me fine, the blue one was always a tad snug on me, particularly in the shoulders I'm leaning going with a Large based on the CMC, but for all I know, that is made with a tighter cut due to the higher "limited" level and the "game" ones they have for T-Mac are cut more like a T-Shirt and thus will fit more like the old white one I have here, not sure. (and yes, I already tried going to a sporting goods store here to hopefully try on a Lions jersey to see, but they don't have any right now)
    • I think there's a ton of potential in that WR room. But they really are unproven right now. Hopefully they live up to the hype.
