Breaking up Double Trouble should never be on the table unless we can get someone to give us a trade much like what Cleveland got for trading with Atlanta for Julio... Anything short of that would be ridiculous imho.

I've had the chance to personally hang out with DeAngelo and J-Stew a few times and they are both terrific guys. Really cool, really layed back and chill. DeAngelo is a great father. They're just a couple of the guys really... Only they're both phenomenal athletes. I would be absolutely heart broken if we ever got rid of either of them. Two stand up guys that have a lot of fun together and they absolutely love their fans. More NFL players should emulate what these guys are doing. We should all be proud that they represent our organization at such a high level.

Sutton is nothing but raw untapped talent. Anytime he has been giving carrying opportunities he has produced. If we fix the QB problem, we should be fine with Stew, Goodson, and Sutton.

I love Sutton. He has definitely been the consummate professional and has done everything the coaches have asked. He even played FB for us... I mean DAMN. He's not a big dude at all... But I'd pick DeAngelo over him 10 times out of 10!

I left him out of the conversation because I don't consider him an elite back. Maybe he will be one day, but he hasn't shown he can be an every down back through a whole season.

My whole point is everyone thinks that running backs grow on trees, but they don't. Prove me wrong then. Panthers have been around for 15 years....so how many elite backs have the Panthers employed?

Even if you say 3 (DW, Stew, Davis), and I don't agree with that, but for argument sake, that is only 1 back every 5 years. Actually longer than that b/c DW and Stew are playing at the same time. As I said before, running backs don't grow on trees.

D. Williams isn't an every down back. So by your own guide lines, williams isn't an elite back either.

Fact is, stewart has proven he can carry an offense. While he hasn't stole the starting role away from williams, he has stepped up, and had some of his best games without williams.

I was thrilled to see Settle's name as the RB coach when he was hired. I've always wondered what team would take him from the college ranks first. I think he will do a fine job. My dad says to this day the hardest he has ever been hit was from John Settle.

We have had more backs that are average than great. This is a fact.

That is a fact for pretty much all 32 teams. Personally, I believe Stewart is above average too though.

Williams did have some injuries but I suspect we held him out of games longer than we had to because we have Stewart and Goodson. Williams is our most elusive back and the best back catching the ball out of the backfield. He works great against a team which has big players but not as fast on the edges and on cutbacks. This complements Stewart who is not as quick but rarely goes down with initial contact. He works best against teams that have fast guys but they are not necessarily big. Each has different skill sets so it isn't just a 2 back system but the ability to situationally play them against different defenses who have different strengths and weaknesses. Plus as teams wear out and get slower as the game progresses, Williams can beat them to the edges and Stewart can keep pounding them and wearing them out.

All he needs is a lesson on ball security, that's all. He's also a force on special teams. He's a draft steal no doubt.

i'm sure your dad has some great stories. pretty cool that his hardest hit was not from a defensive player or a crack-back block, but from a running back. in football, if you're not doling out the punishment, you're receiving it.

i agree with this

i don't see stewart being the runner he is with a compliment like goodson. people think that goodson and williams are interchangeable, and that is just not the case.

I agree with this statement for the one and only simple fact, deangelo is one hell of a blocker. I seem him stand peppers up one play last year. Peppers tried to blast delo but got stood straight up and couldn't apply pressure. When you are delo's size and can stand a guy up that's almost one foot taller than you and much more massive then you are a stud.

Mike Goodson was a crappy blocker which can be worked on but my choice hands down would be to keep both and I think he lotions his hands with butter before every game. The one thing I like about Goodson however is that he is explosive catching the ball out of the backfield.
