What is our best short term option at qb?

I am going with Volek because he seems like he is not damaged goods like the others. Bulger has the most upside, but he has David Carr written all over him. Bulger is what I would consider damaged goods and even said two years ago that he didn't enjoy playing football any longer.

I personally think McNabb is our best short-term option assuming he becomes available.

No doubt, but I can't imagine paying the kind of money McNabb will want to be a back-up or gap filler until Cam is ready. I would think that Carolina is one of the last teams in the NFL he would pick to go to. Rebuilding and just invested a #1 pick in a QB.

I think one of the most interesting stories will be to see if Clausen improves. I hope so, for eventual trade value, but if he improves, he could be the best option. (OK, this is where the experts chime in and proclaim Clausen to be totally incompetent because he didn't do well last year under horrid conditions--Move on--last year was last year) NOT TO GET A CLAUSEN DISCUSSION GOING, but if he is better and actually good, I imagine some people on here would be very disappointed.

This is not a Cam Newton thread.I cant imagine Cam will be ready when the season opens given the lack of time tp prepare. What FAs are going to be availible that will sign knowing they will eventually be taking a back seat. Bulger comes to my mind. I think MMoore will move on.

To me they must do more than offering up Clausen or Newton as a human pinata.I cannot imagine JR wanting a repeat of last year.

Redskins fan here, but also a fan of the league in general and bigtime fan of Cam Newton.

I think Cam will be more ready then people realize.

He's been working with and learning Chudz playbook with the help of Weinke and Ken Dorsey.

Cam's probably been putting in more work this offseason then other rookie QB.

I think Derek Anderson is a likely option and a good fit for an interim QB because of his knowledge/productivity(pro-bowl) in Chudz offense.

Don't really understand why any answer other than Cam could possibly be the right answer.

The only exception to this would be a veteran QB that already knows AND HAS SIGNIFICANT PLAYING EXPERIENCE in Chud's system.

Because, other than that, as of now, Newton is the guy that seems to have been working deeper, harder, and longer into the Chudzinski playbook than any other QB.

Cam will be the number 1 quarterback sometime but..............Because of the rookie salary cap his #1 status is alot less than say last year. He's not raking in the Sam Bradford scratch. So don't be surprised if a vet QB doesn't come into play. If anyone has the figures how does Cam's projected salary grade out to say from last year.

Derek Anderson knows and played well(pro-bowl) w/ Chudinski as his OC.

In fact it was the only system/OC he's ever had success with.

    • Not sure how much he was a long term piece of this team.   Sucks to not have him as part of the rotation.   Looks like it's Lee Hunter time.
    • This post was an error. Oops and sorry for the errors in the previous one. Too slow to edit.   We’ll see what they do.
    • I am not sure he will put the over the games but we’ll probably have them.   Two things I am thinking.  We have 4 preseason games.  All the coaches have enough service time to know the standards that are in place for decades. If I recall it was play your starters just a series to start woth and build it up until week theee where play a lot and you have week four to set hour roster. Evaluate before cuts.   Bevell will certainly have the whole thing down pat.   I’d they don’t do the fries and frie air will worry too. Because it is set up to do that.     I have said since they went t three preseason people have to figure a new way are still feeling it out and trying things.  We don’t have to this year.
