Thomas Davis looked very explosive, looks to be in great shape. Seemed to be cutting pretty hard without any problems. He really seemed fired up last night.

and free tattoos? Nothing in life worth having is free, except Salvation in Jesus. :)

With tattoos you get what you pay for.:D

i'm getting a little excited about this team. loving the additions in olsen and gaither. can't wait to see how they work with the other guys on the field in real games.

cam newton as a gunslinger. seems like he's going to be a much better fit for this offense. none of that dink and dunk stuff. he's going to be pushing us down the field. i like that he's going through his progressions really quick. one of the things i read was that he knows where every receiver is supposed to be on any given play at any given moment. when he closes his eyes and throws up a prayer, is there at least a receiver in the vicinity? also, do you think those are situations that he would like start running in?

I am interested in knowing about the CB situation. You mentioned CJ Wilson, which surprised me a bit.

I am also interested in the /your opinion of the following players:

Ziemba

Pilares

All DTs: Irvin/Neblett/Hayden/Fua/McClain

L. Wilson

Did you catch any of them by any chance?

Do you think Gaither makes Connor trade bait? I read that he was running with the first teamers at MLB w/Beason on the sideline.

The secret with bringing Cam along is going to be keeping him out of passing situations. Letting him throw on first downs, running the ball well-JC was constantly in 3rd and 8 last year. No chance. Giving him the greenlight to run will keep the D honest. I doubt he sees 8-man rushes like JC did.

maybe, but i don't know. i think they see the LBs as being the backbone of the defense (unlike the eagles who view it as overall unimportant). i'm thinking that they want to keep it as solid as possible with dan connor available. they will also be running some 3-4 so that requires them having as any LBs around as possible. i just don't think they are going to mess around there. now if we were to get some great trade offer for connor i think we might bite, but i don't think we are going to be dangling him over the water.

it took me a moment to see what you meant (and i might still have it wrong). just making sure he can get as much yardage one way or the other on the first couple downs so he isn't put in 3rd and long situations. i agree, if that is the case. that will take a significant amount of pressure off him. clausen's dink and dunk stuff just won't accomplish that. you've got to be able to get the ball down the field in large chunks. that is the goal of this offense. there is always going to be some level of risk involved in trying that, but if done right it could pay off in spades.

having an unpredictable run game, esp. with newton involved, and having at least 3 solid receiving targets on the field should keep guys like smith from being overly covered and things open downfield. that should also keep those 8 or 9 guys out of the box. with clausen's short game, there is no stretching the field so committing 8 or 9 guys to the box and constantly rushing and blitzing in isn't all that much of an issue.

Gaither definitely makes Connor trade bait. I love Connor. He is huge, fast, and plays hard. But from everything I heard from Gaither, he has all those qualities, plus the ability to fire up the defense. Connor is a much more cerebral, lead by example type. I like the loud, fired up guys who also get the job done.

Spot on about Cam. Any rookie QB, really. You continuously have them in 3rd and 5+ and they're going to have their struggles. Cam WILL see those situations though. As long as they're not as common as they were last season, we'll be fine. I just have this feeling all it will take, game in and game out, is for Cam to drive us down for a TD one time and he'll be lighting it up. Again, that's any rookie QB. Gets that confidence up when you can have a few good passes, with a strong run game, that ends up being 6 points at the other end of the field.

I am BEYOND pumped for the 13th!

From what I understand, Connor didnt dress to practice, so that is part of it. Connor ultimately does become more expendable with this addition, but Gaither could the top backup for either olb as well in mlb. I would be surprised if he is traded sooner rather than later, he is a valuable backup and you never know what can happen in camp.
