How much time do the starters get in the first preseason game?

yeah, usually its only the first couple of drives. with jimmy being the starter, he might get the first quarter and cam the second. i doubt either will play more than a quarter. it is just to give them a taste and then work next week on things before game 2. that will set up who gets the bulk of first team time in the all important game 3. by then, the starter is likely determined and will sit game 4 and the backups will play game 4 but with the limited experience in the new system and our young QB's, they may see time in week 4.

so in short..... who knows? just watch the games and wait and see.

Anderson will start and play 2 series. Clausen and Newton will each play a little over a quarter. Pike will finish the end.

As for wide receivers, Smith will get a quarter or so, the other guys will rotate in and get work with both Clausen and Newton.

As for the defense we will rotate guys in and out trying several packages and combos.

Anderson hasn't had one snap with this offense and he starts? I know he comes from Chud's system but...

I am not so sure. Pike has not been practicing (shoulder). Cam needs the time and so does Jimmy. Anderson could get the fourth quarter.

I agree that the fanbase needs to see Cam in to start the game. Clausen would hear it until he sits for Cam; even if he starts out not terrible.

Cam will have his rookie jitters, and after several screw-ups, Jimmy comes in and should play like he's been out there before. Plus, it will be interesting to see Cam open up against the opponent's starting defense as opposed to their backups.

    • I know it a real homer take but Im not sure Id slam dunk take that list over Smitty.  Smith just played a different way, he had an ability to just take over a game as a matter of will.  The catch against the giants where he caught it and took a helmet that broke his arm mid air, the games against DeAngelo Hall, 05 Bears playoffs, Ice Up Son, the revenge game against us. Those other WRs may have better stat books but love him or hate him, good guy or bad, Smith just played a different game and when he did look out.
    • Absolutely would have to be anther young scorer with either ELC time or a long term contract...    Could see maybe Kyrou or Robertson.... But I really just dont see him being traded you dont trade your leading post season scorer on a long term deal when he isn't even in his prime yet..   not to mention unless you get more than one of those guys at best it would be lateral with unknown team chemistry.
    • was driving down a two lane rural highway this morning as was reminded of this thread.   Minding my own going 60 in the 55. This massive Chevy rolls up behind me so close all I see is grill. Along comes a passing zone and M firm in the right lane.  Does doofus drop over and pass me? Nope he backs off to a solid 2 second separation.   500 feet after the passing zone you can imagine where he was. Back up my ass.
