What if economic calamity actually hits?

Everyone thinks that they will be able to live off the land...you might want to consider a more balanced plan!
when you consider the person outside of context then maybe you have a point but, I would fair a lot better then most.

but considering that the conversation is for the moment hypothetical for me that's my answer.

To live off the land you may want to know a few things other than "how to grow food."

"IF The SHTF".....It would be good to know where all Power Plants are due to no one would be maintaining them and the ground/air around them might become contaminated.

I would think MANY people would die not due to food or water (that is very important) but from just the fact we have lived with little to no experience in truly "roughing it".

just my thoughts......

Being able to grow a handful of tomato plants does not qualify one to "live off the land."

And as far as hunting, it's a bit easier to do if the woods are teeming with deer due to careful forest management and a limited number of sport hunters that can only take home so many carcasses. Send everyone that can carry a rifle into the woods to find the only food they can, and it'll be hunted down to nothing in no time at all.

I don't believe that would be an issue due to the fact that while a lot of americans would be out of work the Government will never have to drop essential personnel like power plant workers police and fire ect, the US can always print money if they had to but, unless someone started dropping bombs on us I don't think you would need to worry about contaminated food.

as before mentioned let's say I'm experienced, at least I believe enough to live off the land if I had to, but with that said I don't believe I started this topic with "do you think I could make it?" as the question, it was what would you do?

you have to be a few moves ahead of the horde. 2 years the #'s of people that will off themselves or others would be staggering just from panic, greed or survival.

i always say this and it seems counterintuitive but think about it. tree climbing. a good ole fashioned tree house in the bush somewhere might be what saves ya.

correct, but with that said fishing, is a pretty easy and consistent food supply, while fish like bass can be a little harder to come by other fish, like Brim, blue gill, perch and cat fish are not only very plentiful but also fairly easy to catch. even fish that are not often gone after like Gar and Carp while may not taste the best are still eatable.

find the right location and you could fish year around, catch more then you need and you could trade with for other things.

also as a note, while I do have a girl friend I am not married and have no kids so I do not have any commitments to anyone other then myself.

also deer aren't the only thing tat are eatable, there is also squirrel, rabbit, duck, goose.

when it comes to food I think it wouldn't be too hard, as far as shelter, not hard either, already have 2 tents and a mass of camping gear that I would use until I could build a more stable shelter like a log cabin. believe it or not I've actually put a lot of thought into where exactly I would go and why, but I won't tell you suckers that because then you would be crowding my space:cool:

Chainsaw to treehouse creates firewood.

    • With the contract money an OT first rounder makes you can ALWAYS get a new girlfriend.  And probably an upgrade at that.  You only got 2 parents.
    • Brother. You are wholly confusing comparing situations and applying actual standards like most other franchises do like simply getting into a playoff series and winning at least 1 or 2 series games with praising. Nobody is praising the Hawks. Nobody is praising the Magic. Nobody here likes those teams. But reality is reality. The Hawks like other franchises have traded players fired coaches etc but they can still win a couple playoff games. How is that not the bare floor for you or anyone else? What are we doing here if it isn't? We've seen eye to eye on many things over the years. But you are in the camp on the Hornets where you are emotionally attached to LaMelo where you feel the need to carry his water like he's got that juice. That's cool that you feel that way. It's your prerogative. But I differ from that viewpoint entirely. If he had that juice we would not have gotten wiped off the court in 2 play in games with 2 different coaching staffs and rosters. if people don't like hearing that well I'm sorry but how the hell is this team ever going to get better and ultimately go anywhere in the postseason if we just blindly pat them on the back for getting their asses whooped before they actually even get into the real playoffs? There seem to be some Bryce Young level standards being applied here. That's wild to me. But to each his own.
    • Proctor/Freeling were always the belles of the ball where we were picking. What those two *could* become at OT was far greater than what others could be at their respective positions and I’m glad our FO could see that.
