Would you ever consider co-signing a home loan?

Yeah, me neither.

The wife was pretty adamant.

But he is my brother, and there are circumstances working against him.

He gets paid in cash frequently so is...careful...with what he reports to Uncle Sam.

His wife has been at her gig less than a year.

He is really an idiot.

Sold his perfectly adequate place in this market.

recently financed a goddamn Bimmer for his wife.

This is classic ant and grasshopper stuff.

My wife's point is, if they exhibited ANY "try" she'd be ok with loaning them the damn money.

We could buy their place for them outright if we wanted to....because we SAVE everything.

Him...not so much. Ever. One of those types that spends whatever he has.

*sigh* I know I shouldn't but again, he is my brother.

I think if you loan it to him it should be considered as giving it to him with the intention of the possibility of him not giving it back. I've seen too many families stop communicating over someone borrowing money and never paying it back.

These days I either give them the money if I can afford it as an unspoken gift or I don't. If I get it back that's nice but if I don't that's fine too. No hard feelings since I considered it a gift in the first place.

It is the assumption of risk as a co-signer for the home loan.

He could default, and I'd be responsible, but given the small (relatively speaking) size of the loan, it would be an annoyance, not a backbreaker.

Again, my instincts are hell no...but he is my brother.

I would buy it outright and let him lease to own from you. If he has not asked for money then he probably has a down payment that he could give to you.

If he defaults, the house is yours and you can either kick him out and get renters, or sell it for a profit.

I wouldn't co sign.

I understand this. Cosigned a lease on an apartment for my sister about a year ago. Had to cosign because her lazy, good for nothing, dwi getting husband will not get a job, and her income level was not enough for them to be approved. Part of me hopes they split up, but then if they do, I might be stuck with paying some of the rent. But she is my youngest sister.

No way I would cosign a mortgage for them though. I would tell them to get an apartment, and start saving.

      Should've been: Duren and Moose: 2 each (Duren for starting it, Moose for going crazy after lol) Bridges: 3 (1 for defending Moose, 2 for escalating further with Stew) Stewart: 10 (fug that dude, came off the bench, long history already, NBA should've sent a message with double digit games)   Oh well, I think we can weather the storm for 4 games. A win tonight would be huge as the next couple after are tough, vs Houston and Cleveland. Last game against the Wizards should be a win even short handed. Then back to full strength and keep the train rolling. Still thinking we get a 7 or 8 seed and win 1 of a potential 2 in the play-ins to make the real playoffs. 6 seed and skipping the play-in entirely is a tough ask. But I do think we are better than Magic, Heat, Hawks and can pass 2 of them before the end of the regular season.

      Hmmm... Well, one of them consistently got dumb penalties that you never see any other receiver commit like offensive offsides on 4th down. One of them consistently would just run routes out of bounds for no reason. XL's only saving grace is that he has been a solid blocker at WR for us There is a reason XL often didn't get the ball thrown to him - he made some of the dumbest mistakes I have ever seen from a receiver... Even receivers that have zilcho talent (Mingo, Terrace Marshall, and all of our other WR draft busts) didn't make mistakes this dumb. It is bad enough when you aren't helping your team because you can't get open; it is much worse when you are so bad and dumb that you are actively hurting your team. I honestly don't think there is any fixing XL. The dude is just an idiot and lacks any kind of awareness and common sense on and off the football field
