honestly, Stewart was a bad pick...yeah he's good but RB's are a dime a dozen. Ashame Clady didn't drop one more spot to us that year.

i wouldn't classify stewart as a bad pick, we drafted him because we weren't completely sold that d-will was our primary back. he stepped up & the rest is history

people still get this wrong.

stewart was drafted because williams was the only capable back on the roster and fox/hurney didn't want to repeat the disastrous 2005 season.

...the 2009 and 2010 seasons say they made the right choice.

i have to disagree with you on this, you can draft a rb anywhere & get production(think sutton). most people thought stewart was a power back in the steven davis mold & would supplant williams as the starter at some point

Hurney = adequate

I think the deal right now is that Hurney and Rivera have been trying to get an idea of what type of players they look for and how they should build the team. Given how predictable our FA pickups were with Fox methinks Hurney likes to give the coach a decent amount of say and moresore likes to get a clear understanding of the type of team he wants from the GM-Coaching duo perspective.

Hurney & Rivera are still figuring this out so it may not be clear to a lot of us right now and we may be scratching our heads. Once games start going and Rivera starts coming into his own as a HC, our team will solidify and we'll begin to see talent & production.

...and Hurney makes odd choices sometimes and takes risks, but when you're consistent with your 1st round picks, it gives some breathing room to take those risks. Now its becoming more apparent our recent risks haven't really worked out well at all.

eh its all a crap shoot. Theres just way too many assholes that love to pretend like they couldve have done better since they watch 5 college games a week and or obviously way better than the pro scouts who get paid hundreds of thousands of dollars to do it.

I dont understand why people cant understand the simple concept of odds and risks.

OO SHOULDVE PICKED TAILS DUMMY. IT LANDED ON HEADS TWICE BEFORE!

Honestly, sometimes I think Hurney doesn't know what the fug he is doing. We've taken so many players that were hyped as 1st rounders at one point only to fall during the draft.

Greg Hardy

Jimmy Clausen

Duke Robinson

Everette Brown

Dan Connor

Charles Johnson

Dwayne Jarrett

Richard Marshall

All guys that were big in college and fell. Sure, some of them panned out but clearly some of these guys dropped like rocks for a reason that Marty (or Fox, I suppose) did not see. At least he's automatic in the first round... hopefully that trend continues.

err Nope, we kept our original 2nd round pick and got their second and fourth from that year for our first the next.

It does not matter....a team should never, ever give up it's number one draft choice unless it gets significant value in return.

The Everette Brown pick has to be the stupidest move of the Hurney era ever, a desperate stupid move.

The guy was too small for the NFL.

You do not see teams like the Patriots doing stupid crap like this.

The point is, we gave up a #1 for someone who is now cut.

We got the 49ers second round pick in return, yippeee.

No the point was from those other guys, that we acquired Brown for two picks a 1st and a 2nd. It took Floppin waaay too much effort to explain why this wasnt the case.

As far as wasting a pick goes, you win some and you lose some then dont you? Maybe you want to criticize his entire history then? Thats been done before here also and the argument wont end well for you.
