One thing I have noticed....

Some of you are still under the impression that the Panthers are trying to piece together a playoff team this year.

They aren't.

Right now they are more interested in young guys who show the most promise. They plan to crack open a window of contention that will last roughly 5-6 years starting as early as next season.

So if the Panthers do sign a rookie DT that shows promise, be happy. If they sign a second year WR that has the potential to be a solid #2 in this league... be happy.

In short, get your head out of your collective asses and start thinking in years, not weeks.

Love,

Zod

Excellent post.

I know someone is going to post "WORZT to FRIST!"

If we signed a few vets, I was thinking we could win up to 7 games, I still think we are going to win 5-6.

This is why were went a little crazy picking up guys off waivers, we are trying to throw talent against the wall and see what sticks. Then when we find out if some of these guys can play, and develop into cheap, reliable, young players, then next season we can add a couple pieces to make a run at a wildcard.

We bitched for years about Fox relying too much on vet, well folks this is the opposite.

The reason they have focused more on offense is Cam, they want to have 0 excuses for Cam not to develop, and to make sure that can protect and nurture him along the way.

I get what you are saying but I would be happy with not being embarrassed every week so I can go to work and not get harassed bc the panthers are so bad. We can worry about next year...next year. Im worried about Sunday and so should they.

Assuming you live in Charlotte, you shouldn't feel embarrassed when you go into work, regardless of our record. If you do, tell those Steeler/Packer/Cowboy wagoners to move.

I know its hard, but just try to lower expectations.

Btw, don't be embarrassed about the Panthers, people will actually respect you for sticking with your team no matter how bad they are, and when we are good again, everyone will know you are not a bandwagon.

In the end, it will be much more fulfilling.

It's not about going to the playoffs this year. I understand we are building for the future. That's great. But at the same time, we do need some veteran presence at DT. I like the youth movement the team has been going through. But I do not like the idea of having 3 rookies rotating at the same position.

Just want to be competitive from year to year. You know, like the Steelers, Pats, Colts. I will be shocked if we win 6 games this year. That being said, I don't want it to look like 2010, version 2.0, while we amass our 3 or 4 wins this year. We can lose, but let's not look horrible doing it. It's not like the Panthers can't put their best out on the field while not having to simultaneously break the bank.

Nobody is running around all willy nilly :willy_nilly: worried about making the playoffs. As a whole, haven't really seen fans who are that delusional.

Look at the Buccaneers from 09'.

They were the youngest in the league, and started a rookie QB to develop him.

Next season they won 10 games, and would have made the playoffs any other season.

Except they did not invest in the vets this offseason, I thought Nmandi or Joseph made perfect sense for them.

Thats the model.

    • Give me Anthony Hill Jr or give me death
    • We need a Sam Off Ball Backer to pair with Lloyd. Lloyd is a strong Interior Will especially in Pass Coverage- but that is also Trevin Wallace’s archetype. Need a Rozeboom style run stopper. Rodriguez and Allen fit that
    • There aren’t that many ways to screw Day 2 up.  That’d be them making an obvious reach, or selecting at one of the few positions that we are pretty solid at. Because as excited as we are for the growth and improvement this team is showing, it’s still not an overly talented or deep roster. Honestly, there aren’t really many positions I’d feel bad about. Feelings about Bryce aside (because we are not going to select a QB), it’s really RB (bad positional value) and that’s it. I guess OT too since we grabbed Freeling in Round 1.    While not as high on my wish list as other spots, you can justify WR or TE.     Interior offensive lineman who would likely take over an interior spot either this year (at center) or guard (next for cap casualty of Hunt or Lewis)? Fine by me.   Dlineman? Yes, that’s a highly rotational position and we have zero quality depth.    ILB? Yep, could stand for an upgrade over Wallace.    EDGE? Absolutely wouldn’t hate another option to spell Phillips, Scourton, and Princely.    FS?  Would love to add better coverage skill set to the backend of the defense. Moehrig and Ransom are great in run support but not as good deep. Adding a more traditional FS would allow us to mix and match/run some 3 safety sub packages and or a big nickel type look with a SS down near the line for better run support in possible pass downs.    CB? Could stand to get better at nickel.
