Let's pump the brakes for a sec...

I don't want the cautionary tale yet. It has been less than 24 hoours from Newton's historic perforrmance. I have listened to everyone in the media and plenty here lay all kinds of criticisms on Newton for months and months. Then we has a decent preseason we listen to how inaccurate he was or how it was only preseason and there was no gameplanning.

Well yesterday Arizona gameplanned and brought the house at Newton. They shut down the run game, our special teams sucked and the defense gave away at least 14 points and special teams gave another 7. It was only Newton and Smith who kept us in the game. And Newton came up 2 yards short from pulling off an epic comeback with less than 2 minutes left.

Sorry but I don't want to hear about the fact he might suck down the road or will have bad games etc. RIght now he is our franchise quarterback in the making and has surpassed all expectations. When he screws up then we can have all the cautionary tales and comments about him being a rookie, etc. Until then I don't want to hear about what might go wrong.

Right now I am felling pretty vindicated about saying I wanted him with the first pick in the draft and supporting him all along the way. I am drinking the koolaid and it is damn tasty. Lets enjoy it for a day or two before we get all the 'it is only 1 game", wait until Green Bay, etc.

After all the crap and posts since February castigating Newton at every step, I don't want to hear anything negative for a few days or even cautionary.

I approve this message.

I've watched NFL long enough to know that every QB struggles. But there are plenty of guys who become icons an superstars in this league that never once get close to the type of game Newton had yesterday. And he did it on the road and in his first career start.

I think tough times will come and only the first chapter has been written in a long book, but if he stays healthy and we build around him correctly, you will see unprecedented things from him.

For the first time in a long time I scared my dogs and daughter by yelling in excitement, for the first time in years I was slapping my legs watching the last two minutes of the game because I was just so damn excited and nervous that I had to do something with my arms to expel the energy and punching myself in the face hurts. For the first time in years I had trouble sleeping after a Panthers game because of the smile that just wouldn't break from my face.

Until I see him struggle I won't pump my damn breaks, I'm going full out down this hill and I won't stop till I have to hit the emergency ramp.

Yeah... The stats are nice... But as I've told the fantasy football heads before we even played a game, we are going to post some stats. This is as aggressive an offense there is un the NFL, and its geared to pick up huge chunks of yards in chunks and bunches. We will get the stats if that's what ur into...

What was more impressive to me than the stats was Cam, the man, talking about the game.. you notice him towards the end of his clip addressing the media, "there were some bad throws there at the end that I felt like I could have done a better job myself". That my friends is an NFL QB after losing a game that he felt like he could have won. Not only did he put the team on his back, he is focused on what HE needs to do to win football games. This kid is the real deal.

I've heard people compare him to John Elway and Brett Farve(with all due respect to Mr. Scott) after one game.

Style of play, not level of success.

Technically, Matt Stafford is the same style of quarterback as Tom Brady. Saying that isn't the same as saying they're equal in their skill level.

Here's to hoping Newton is that good though.

Yeah we should all tone it down a notch. We are going to see the good the bad and ugly. I was thinking all last night could this be just and lucky game or something like that. But I think Cam is really that good. I also believe there will be times he will struggle. We have to get better each and every week to one day become a great football team. But yeah we all need to pump the brakes. But if he finish this season on a real good note i say winning 5 to 6 games. It might be safe to say we have finally found our QB.

We can tone it down tommorrow. Today we should be able to be excited about our #1 overall pick.......looking better than anyone has in their NFL debut.

Well I never said we couldn't be excited...we should be and are. Usually after a loss I tune out espn and NFL network bc I don't want to hear how bad we played. This is the first time I've been anxious to hear what the pundits thought after a loss. We may have something special but I'm just saying that we should keep things in perspective when thinking about the future. Excitement should never stop or be toned down...expectations are a whole other animal. When people raise their expectations beyond achievable or realistic levels it can be dangerous...and when things don't go as planned chaos will insue.

Chaos is the Huddle's middle name.

THIS.

Can you remember the last time there was this much excitement in our fanbase? Certainly not since 2008 when we were undefeated at home...

Just nice to know that we have something to look forward to now. To have confidence in our offense is a nice feeling that we havent been able to enjoy for a looong while.

Yes, there are lots of things that need to be worked on and DEFINITE room for improvement but poo yeah we put points on the board yesterday.

Ill be enjoying it as long as I can :)

I have no doubt he will have some bad games this year just like other franchise QBs do. The only thing that worries me are our good number of ignorant fans that will boo him right away this Sunday.

I will take care of the ones around me Sunday.....you can trust me on that one :)
