Did we misuse money on DeAngelo?

Did we misuse money on DeAngelo Williams?

I am not saying Williams is not worth the money or he is to blame because the running game is stagnant. But what I am saying is maybe not worth the money in this system. We already had JStew under contract and could have used DeAngelo's money on say a CB.

Love DeAngelo, just wonder if the money could have been more wisely used in places of need.

Umm me panthro and a couple others have been saying this from the start.

Wouldn't Cullen Jenkins or Coefield look nice next to our rookie DT's ?

Or Jonathan Joseph?

DWill was a BigCat please the fans luxury signing.

I love the guy, but would rather have Stew at this point in their careers.

Not to mention we would have gotten a 3rd comp pick.

Yes.

I supported bring him back, but that's when i felt we were going to utilize him.

If he is only getting a max of 10 snaps a game with only about 5 touches, then we should of dropped the dollars on a big money defensive player.

when he's going he's a top 5 or top 10 back in this league, but you don't pay that kind of money to a RB you aren't going to use.

No, Deangelo is still an elite back, and even though they might have overpaid, he is still going to make plays this year.

Concerning CB, I along with most anyone who follows the team saw this as our biggest weakness and it has certainly manifested itself in the back-breaking TD's given up which are the biggest reason we are 0-2.

That being said, signing high-priced FA CB's doesn't have a great track record. Dunta Robinson never seems to make a play unless he's trying to decapitate someone. Antonio Cromartie makes Revis look even better b/c teams can pick on him so much they don't even worry about Revis. Some CB's do well in one system but not another. Drafting well at CB is the best approach in my opinion.

I do wish we would have addressed CB more. But not at the expense of not resigning DW.

But are you saying we overpaid him because of his ability/stage in his career or more because there were other pressing needs?

Personally, I feel that DeAngelo can still play at a high level and have no problem with that contract if Stewart wasn't on the roster. But with the way our offense is structured DeAngelo's money might not have been used right.

I say no, sometimes the game is more about stats. d-will is a great person and a fantastic player...overreacting fans are going to freak out whenever everyone doesn't put up all pro numbers every game. give the running game time, I guarantee you it comes around

Can we hold off on these questions until the end of the season at least?

By then we'll know the impact he'll have on this offense.

2 games into the season is premature.

Then there's no reason for the question. It will have already have been answered. You don't ask for a prediction of a team's record after the season.

    • Please don't tell me you just averaged the QB ratings of all of Shough's starts to declare his QB rating as better 😂 I hope you don't actually believe that's how it works.  Otherwise please show your math on Shough's QB rating as a starter. Thanks for including Shough's 2.6 more Rushing YPG in this comparison, really doesn't feel at all like you're desperately grasping for as many straws as you can here. The truth is, it takes a statistical bottom-tier starting QB like Bryce Young to make Shough look simply OK by comparison.  And that bottom-tier starting QB still, by your own admission, puts up more points for his offense than Shough.  You're framing this as damning for Bryce, but in reality the fact that him and Bryce are so neck-and-neck is shining Shough in a very poor light. Yes Shough is a rookie and Young is a 3rd year starter, which is why I circle back to my position of Shough having a "pretty solid, encouraging rookie season" whereas you're fanboying over him.  Never mind that Shough is 2 years older than Bryce though.  Normally yes a QB's experience in the league is invaluable...but Bryce is kind of a unique situation considering the biggest complaint with him is he is too physically limited to succeed in the league.  Do we think a QB can overcome severe physical limitations simply with experience?  Also I remember wayyyy back (/s) when we cared so much about DJ Johnson being an older rookie and our standard for them being that they're more NFL-ready and able to contribute sooner rather than later.  But now all of a sudden Shough is just a poor little 26-year-old rookie on an awful team.  Seriously...the way you frame everything around Shough is straight out of a fanfic.  Constantly referencing with tears in your eyes how he's succeeding against all odds on such an awful team.  Meanwhile the Saints' D is 14th in PPG and their offense (led by Shough) is 29th in PPG.  Telling me how the Saints managed a win on Shough's shoulders against the Jets last week who put up...*checks notes*...6 points against the Saints' D.  Yes god bless the savior Shough who willed his team to victory against those juggernauts led by Brady Cook.  Never mind how Taysom Hill threw as many touchdowns in 1 passing attempt as Shough did in 49 passing attempts.  Yikes.
    • Who's gonna drop the gloves? I can't think of a single player on this team that can fight. Period. Much less get the best of an opposing player. Please.
    • as a starter, Shough is better this year in all the aspects I shared with you.  Facts. You disputed nothing I said because I’m talking starts and my numbers are right
