Fox/Clausen/Moore vs. Rivera/Cam

CRA

Has more to do with the QB than the coach. Clausen couldn't even throw the ball 40 yards. Newton flicks his wrist and it's 50 yards downfield.

I agree, that is why I put the coaches in the thread title. Rivera is a defensive coach too.....just shows that he isn't living in the past.

It's probably roughly equal in responsibility. I mean what are the chances we would have even had receivers that far down the field to TRY to catch the ball under the previous regime? Receiver - I should say - b/c it would have been Smitty crossing / max-protect every play once we got a lead.

ehh, I'd use the "distance thrown" split, because while big plays are indicative of our new offense, I think distance thrown is a better way to look at it. It's true we've seen a DRAMATIC difference though. Here's that breakdown... note that due to rounding, some of these won't equal 100%, but you'll get the idea.

Moore:

Distance fraction of total throws

Pass Thrown Behind LoS 0.190140845

Pass Thrown 1-10 yds 0.450704225

Pass Thrown 11-20 yds 0.218309859

Pass Thrown 21-30 yds 0.105633803

Pass Thrown 31-40 yds 0.028169014

Pass Thrown 41+ yds 0.007042254

Cam

Pass Thrown Behind LoS 0.135135135

Pass Thrown 1-10 yds 0.243243243

Pass Thrown 11-20 yds 0.459459459

Pass Thrown 21-30 yds 0.108108108

Pass Thrown 31-40 yds 0.054054054

Pass Thrown Behind LOS 0.231543624

Pass Thrown 1-10 yds 0.516778523

Pass Thrown 11-20 yds 0.181208054

Pass Thrown 21-30 yds 0.036912752

Pass Thrown 31-40 yds 0.020134228

Pass Thrown 41+ yds 0.013422819

edit: by the end of the season I expect Cam to have far more 1-10 yard passes, because he is still adjusting to sometimes taking what defenses are giving him rather than forcing it long.

In general I agree, but I think we can all agree that we are FAR more competitive than at any point than we were last year right?

I mean none if it "matters", but the key to this season is improvement.

We can also agree that Cam and our coach hates that term. I do too. I don't watch the games to see my team be competitive. I watch to see them win.

0-2 vs 0-2.

Let's get a win before we continue bashing the old coach

0-2 really isn't 0-2.

One represented something at it's end.....the other is something being built.

Not so much bashing but pointing out the drastic change in view.

Not knocking you CRA, I'm just ready for threads that keep looking back at our piss-poor tired excuse of an offense to go away. It's depressing to even think about it.

I here you....but this really has 2 sides to it. It is pointing toward what appears to be a very exciting new offensive mindset here in Carolina. Never thought we would see our offense be this explosive so quickly in the passing department.

No doubt we've evolved to an electric offense that has re-energized our fan base, the one's who have a clue anyway.

Now, having said that, you know that a thread title including Fox, Moore, Clausen is serious troll bait up in here. Someone set the trap...they're coming.

:D

2 losses are 2 losses no matter how you look at it...rarely a team will pull off a huge lage season run and make the playoffs but an 0-3 start pretty much means your season is over. If you want to consider it "growing pains" that's fine because they are, but the team could have won both the games and that's what the difference is.

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
