Most Hated Panther ever: Jake Delhomme?

soooo...to the OP...no. he is not the most hated.

are there those who think he should still be the QB? yes.

are there those who would like him gone? yes.

are there those who love what he has done for us in the past? yes.

are there those who don't care what he has done in the past but want to look ahead to someone else? yes.

are there those who just like his bojangles commercials? yes.

are all the above fans of the panthers? yes.

singularly focused but not singularly minded.

we all want what's best for our favorite team we just have different opinions about what that is.

nothing wrong with that. if you have a problem with it, get used to it or get over it or go somewhere else. it isn't going to change nor should it ever.

I will give you an example. When the Jets released Chad Pennington, New York was nothing but appreciative for what the guy did for their franchise. No one would say anything negative about Chad and all they said was how he was a class act and deserved better. They recognized how he came in and since he was the starter gave them a chance year in and year out.

It's funny about the "compassion" of the New York fans, because I'm pretty sure I remember Pennington getting booed in the Meadowlands when he got hurt in his last season...in fact, he was limping off the field so that they did not have to waste a timeout on his ankle/leg injury and got nothing but an earful of boos.

Yeah the way Jets fans treated Penny (They actually cheered while he was hurt, I saw and heard it for myself) was about as nice as the way the Jets treated him by letting him go to Cleveland with the team then cutting him and sending him home by himself on a plane. That is one of the single most unnecessary & vile things I have ever seen done to a guy who did nothing but act with class towards his team, the city and the fans. Ergo...they deserve Cutler and he, them.

I dont think anybody would cheer if Jake got hurt at BOA. Jake played every game this year didnt he? Coming off a major operation Jake had a pretty good season. He is a QB, people everywhere dislike their QB. Im sure that even some idiot in Indy or NE dosent like Peyton or Tom.

Although I was at the game in New Orleans last season when David Carr got smoked and they had to put Matt Moore in. I was cheering with all the Saints fans becasue Carr was out. That being said, he came back in the 4th quarter and led us on a drive to the winning score.

Jets treated Pennington with respect???!!!! LOL!!!

I never liked Pennington either, he has a very similar arm to Jake. Both cant throw the deep ball. But I do think Pennington is a better qb then Jake, but I would not Pennington either. I just find them to be boring frnachise qb's.

I don't think Jake is hated as much as fans are just so disappointed in him, and others. I like Jake, but I wholeheartedly agree that he has not improved mechanically one bit since he took over as starter in 2003. And it's in those mechanics that the team is underachieving.

That said, the most hated Panther that I can think of was Kevin Green in 1997. The anger he aroused was quite palpable. Even though he rejoined the team after that year, many fans (including myself) had no use for him. I don't think Sean Gilbert was beloved either.

Truer words never spoken...He's not gotten any better, can't read a defense, he has no pocket presence, over/under throws guys when they are open. It really bugs the hell out of me.

    • So the last guy who had the job got hired by his former team directly into a role he has no direct experience in?
    • Hard to pass up millions for a couple of days work per week for a coaching gig in the NFL that is 60-80 hours each week during the season and a more relaxed 50 hours a week during the off season. Yeah, I'd love to see him as our DC but hard to see him giving up the cushy job there if he gets it. And he's going to be a great commentator for the network.
    • Really, I think that is where negotiations come in. If you've got a QB getting you to 10 wins but statistically he's not a great performer, then you say look you can take $22 million or you can try it on the market. Because let's face it, out there, any leadership skills that we're seeing aren't going to be on the table, it's just going to be performance and that lands him in the QB2 market, which is much, much less lucrative (although any of us would love that money).  No one is saying that Bryce will be a $50 million QB, barring something short of a miraculous jump. I'm just saying that if we are winning somehow with him at the helm, then it would be fuging stupid to dive back into the rookie pool all over again. Let's say we do hit the 10 win mark, heck, let's call it 11 and a second round in the playoffs. I think we can all say that would be a really uplifting result and one that should be doable if we have good play. What do we do then? Here's what I would offer if I were Morgan and Tepper. $25 million a year for 3 years, each year with up to $10 million in incentives for touchdowns, wins, playoff depth, being under 10 interceptions, completing a full season, passing yardage milestones, taking less than 15 sacks. Look, Bryce isn't a Ferrari, he isn't a Corvette, or a mid-level BMW. He's probably a new Toyota Sienna that will definitely get you somewhere and bring the whole team along with it, no fuss but not a lot of pizazz.  And really, it's about the destination, not about what drove you there.
